Oh wait, I know this isn't right. You can't trade anyone on the team, because they are all great or loved by someone, so keep everyone and pay them a lot when it's time.

Then the Knicks run back the entire team minus Rose and Obi but add Donte D and everyone has a sh*t fit.

I didn’t have a **** fit, and I am prone to them…. In fact as **** fits go I think this has been muted.

Don't worry, the collective meltdown is building.

Just need for the Knicks to not make any other moves.

I hope not. The only move next is to probably (hopefully) turn Fournier into a TPE and then we got to hope somebody good falls lose for cheap. It’s a lot more likely than waiting on a star.

I could deal with that..we keep IQ and Grimes..finally get that prototypical wing and balance out the roster. PG13 better stay healthy and lay of the strippers.

I'd be more for it if Paul George wasn't 33 years old with cartilage like overcooked spaghetti.

I'd go for it (barely) because as opposed to a guy that plays sporadically/poorly when he plays (Harden), it looks like Paul George still can consistently bring it when he occasionally plays. These are his numbers from last year:

Maybe he's justa rental ...but that's a pretty nice stop gap. I might move RJ for him, but not IQ. RJ because he doesn't fit with Randle and isnt an ideal small forward....not because I dont like him or believe in his overall potential.

Love the value in the signing. Not sure the overall plan, but this was a great pickup for the mle.

During the playoffs we used RJ a lot more off ball as a screener so maybe they’re going ultra small ball

IQ
Donte
Hart
RJ
Hartenstein

Vs bench units which usually go smaller anyway, it might work.

I also like it b/c maybe he’ll play a lot of mins w/ Brunson, giving Grimes a chance to breakaway from the starters and have the ball in his hands more w/ the second unit. The rare times it happened he seemed more engaged.

Here’s the lineup where they went RJ Hart at the F slots

I. Hartenstein - J. Hart - R. Barrett - Q. Grimes - I. Quickley
15 mins
107.4 ORTG
82.1 DRTG
25.3 NRTG

Grading Donte DiVincenzo’s 4-year, $50 million contract with Knicks in 2023 NBA free agency
B+

Donte DiVincenzo, Knicks, NBA Free Agency, Josh Hart, Jalen Brunson

The New York Knicks are bringing back the band together. The Knicks recently signed Donte DiVincenzo to a four-year, $50 million contract in NBA free agency to reunite him with his Villanova championship brothers Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart in New York.

The 26-year-old opted out of a $4.7 million player option with the Golden State Warriors. All signs indicated he was done in the Bay Area due to Golden State's inability to match his price tag. DiVincenzo spent the last season with the Warriors to rejuvenate his career after a down season in 2021-22. He had a strong campaign with averages of 9.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while shooting a career-best 39.7 percent from beyond the arc.

After getting his career back on track with the Warriors, DiVincenzo cashes in on a huge long-term deal. With that said, let us grade Donte DiVincenzo's newly-signed four-year, $50 million deal with the Knicks in NBA free agency.

Donte DiVincenzo Knicks contract grade: B+
The Knicks did not make any noise at all through the first 24 hours of free agency. But on day two, they pounced on one of their top free agency targets in Donte DiVincenzo. New York used the mid-level exception to sign the 2021 NBA Champion.

The Villanova connection with Brunson and Hart is obviously a heartwarming reunion narrative of brothers who won a couple of NCAA Championships together. Bringing those three back together instantly increases their morale and boosts the team chemistry, which are important ingredients of success in the NBA.

But storylines aside, DiVincenzo is actually a piece this Knicks team needs. New York needs more offensive firepower and capable shot-creators and the 6-foot-4 guard fits the bill. Though the Knicks had the 3rd best offensive rating in the NBA during the regular season, they still shot just 35.4 percent from three, which ranked 19th in the Association.

That paltry three-point shooting became more glaring in the playoffs. The Knicks shot just 29.2 percent from beyond the arc throughout the postseason, which was dead last among the 16 teams that qualified. Bringing his career 36.2 percent shooting clip to the Knicks, DiVincenzo should instantly improve New York's perimeter shooting.

Furthermore, it became clear during the postseason that the Knicks needed a secondary ball handler next to Jalen Brunson. DiVincenzo is capable of doing that, as he showed in his stint with the Warriors. He became a key piece for Golden State off the bench and even thrived as a starter due to the myriad of injuries the Warriors went through last season. In 36 games as a starter, DiVincenzo averaged 10.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists.

At $12.5 million a season annually, the value of his deal is right at the sweet spot for a player of his caliber. It doesn't break the bank and it is also a contract that could be easily absorbed in a potential trade for a bigger star down the line.

Overall, the Knicks did a tremendous job in actually bringing in someone they like. He isn't the big time star that makes them title contenders. Nonetheless, DiVincenzo is a player that makes them better. And they did not need to gut the roster or spend a ton of money to get him. With that said, this is why DiVincenzo's new deal deserves a B+.

How did we make it to game 6 exactly if they were cooking us that badly.

RJ was good prior to game 6 but Julius was garbage all the damn time. And game 6 situation is exactly where the stars should step up

Alright Knicks RealGMers... the 4 year 50 million is just an estimate. Until we see the official contract, it might change just a tad. It might be 3+1 or full 4 years but 49.5m. Lets wait to see that contract.

love rj, but i’d keep iq over him and look to see if you can get a lesser impact but very good 3pt shooter

On the court?

I'd say adds another player with some dribble drive ability, good defender, has become a good 3 point shooter - valid to ask if that maintains itself. Good glue guy, secondary or tertiary passer. Some feel he can actually function as a point - it's only been in limited doses

Chemistry with other Villanova cats Brunson and Hart probably helps some

Doesn't address team's issue w/ height or now backup PF, though some feel those 12 mpg Hart and RJ can hold that down, maybe Roby is ok for 12 mpg

Off the court
Generally seen as precursor to another move, even if that move doesn't happen right now.
This FO has had plans it couldn't execute fully, so it's possible they WANT a 2nd move but don't pull it off in timeframe they envision. Meaning this year, lol.

IMHO, when a team has the full MLE, they should use, since otherwise they'd lose it, and generally they get a useful player, which Donte D is.
Makes it easier to deal any one of: RJ, IQ, Grimes, Hart, even Fournier, where the team would still have quality depth after moving a player or two.

*edit - people would hate to hear this, but it's even a hedge against dealing a pick. Because now you have a player who is decent, decent contract - not as cheap as a guy drafted between 18-30, but still makes even this a little easier - can put picks into that "star" trade a little easier. If that trade exists.

Even without Summer League, Roby has proven that he can give NBA teams 10-15 mins of solid play.

Aside from him though, many have been calling for Thibs to experiment with some small ball lineups. If the roster stays the same into the season, we'll get some looks at RJ and Hart in that role, which will add an interesting dynamic without sacrificing rebounding or defense from what we got from Obi last year.

My concern is whether or not that could hold up if god forbid Randle got hurt for a weeks-long stretch like last season. Roby can be solid and I'd be happy if we gave an end-of-bench spot to Watford who Portland just let go. I don't mind the rotation lacking a backup big, but I'd like some extra size on the bench.
