i doubt the knicks are playing coy with randle. if he's that likely to be re-injured that they need to hold him out it's doomed anyway. it just simply is what it is. they're not ready yet.

Shut all 3 down

Ridiculous to expect them to walk into the playoffs after not playing for months at this point

Unfortunately OG has a history of injuries. He’s missed 33% of in season games in his career. He simply is somebody you’re going to have to pencil in for a minimum of 20-25 missed games in a season moving forward.

If he’s healthy and can contribute in the playoffs that’s going to be the only factor. That’s what he’s here to do - win during the playoffs.

Just by reading about him, though, don’t expect him to be like Brunson and play with some bumps and bruises. His pain tolerance seems to be low. He’s not a play through pain type of guy. Not that that’s necessarily a terrible thing considering who the coach is.

This has been my point for a while.

The Knicks are playing these stupid PR games, meanwhile, all 3 of these guys are going to suck if they don't get some time in, and that's not happening as they are all clearly injured, except maybe Mitch, and Mitch never looks good coming back from injury, except for 2 weeks later.

So, low confidence Mitch looks decent for round 1, zero confidence Randle will look good.
OG, I guess could play defense and brick shots...

The dream died in January. Hopefully the Knicks win a round and Miami doesn't injure half the roster next year.

This is why the Knicks should get Mikal. He can cover all those OG missed games, Probably about 120 of them over the 4 year contract.

Coming back with 5 games left just isn't enough time, that's too late. We needed these guys back with 15 games left so they could get their timing, conditioning and acclimated within the offense. Asking guys to come back from missing 3 months and jump right back into the playoffs with 5 games under their belts is just bad recipe. If Randle comes back and stinks it up in the playoffs I wont even hold it against him this time, I don't expect anything from him offensively after missing that much time and jumping into playoff basketball.

5 games is the difference between a healthy Randle and a hurt one from last year and I think that's more than enough. Conditioning doesn't go away for an injury like OG's and maybe to an extend Randle's. Timing, you're right, but conditioning won't be an issue. Robinson's injury is more likely to deal with conditioning issues because the injury was below the waist.

5 games against teams with nothing to play for isn't enough, he only missed 2 weeks last year before the playoffs and looked like a shell of himself, he has missed 2 months now. Conditioning will be an issue, just going through drills and playing 5 meaningless games in preparation for the playoffs isn't how things are done, most good teams are shutting their players down then or giving them extremely limited minutes, he's not going to get anything approaching playoff intensity vs the Celtics, Bulls, Nets and Bucks the last 5 games.

We've seen it over and over again guys coming back for the playoffs and just laying duds that have missed less time than Randle, Embiid's numbers in particular are a testament to that. We saw it with Randle this year, he had surgery in the offseason and took 20-30 games to get back to where he was previously, he averaged 19ppg on 38% shooting the first 15 games of the season, he needed time to ramp up. You're expecting too much if you're thinking 5 games is enough before going into a series.

yeah we also need aggressive randle if he's going to be effective not someone worried about his shoulder and contact. Because if he's just back taking step back jumpers because he doesn't want to get physical in the paint with his shoulder then he is going to struggle in the playoffs like the past.

He the needing of getting back in the flow.

Mitch... I mean doesn't really need much acclimation time...run, set screens, rebound,defend...I think a few games will be fine especially since I don't think they will ask him to play huge minutes when he's back because ihart has been good and probably remains the starter. But 18-20 mins off the bench shouldn't be a crazy ask.

OG also I don't think needs a lot of time to ramp up. On offense he's going to be in the corners most of the time with some backdoor cutting. They just need his elite defense and since its not a leg injury his conditioning should be fine.

I think Randle's my biggest concern because if he's going to come back and be the #2 option he needs time to get back into a rhythm or Thibs is going to have to have a short leash because like you said I can't really get on him too much for struggling at this point since he just has been off for so long.

I have zero interest in bringing zero confidence, turnover prone, spin move into double teams, tunnel vision randle back. If he can't get AT LEAST 5-7 games to build some rhythm, shut him down.

Julius playing at 75% is better than no Julius at all. Even from just having a body to soak up minutes.

That's why they won't shut him down prematurely. To do so essentially ends the Knicks season.

what's worse than the 33% is it's more like 50% the last 4 years.

He'll come back and Andre Drummond will knock him out of the postseason in one of those 3 Bulls games.
