Maybe a dumb question but why don't they do an MRI right after the X Ray? Why the delay?

And I know it's only a few who think this but to blame Thibs for this injury makes no sense. He got hurt a minute into the game. Fatigue and minutes played (2 days off) had nothing to do with it. Injuries happen.

Probably because they don’t have an MRI machine at the stadium and also they take longer to schedule and perform and get the result read by a radiologist and there’s probably not an MRI tech or radiologist there. Whereas there are portable X-ray machines which take an instant pic

It would also have to be ordered by a provider. There has to be medical necessity. Something may well have been diagnosed that does not require MRI.

Well yeah. But even if they did require it and the team doctor could order it they couldn’t do it right then and there. They could probably haul them to the nearest ER but it’s not truly an emergency (although it seems like it from a fan perspective) and teams usually have their preferred facilities

Yeah. They’d do it tomorrow.

A doctor friend once told me, the injury can generally be diagnosed with a high degree of confidence by touch and how the patient reacts with pain to certain movement. The x-ray is really for the patient's benefit to convince them of the diagnosis. I imagine the MRI is an extension of this, but in addition to convincing the patient, convincing the team and insurance providers.

Brunson definitely needs this rest.
Hopefully he comes back recharged 1000%.

It would explain things that he was holding his knee low and that he did try to get up. The guys who get ACL or other tears stay down

Now that I think it over more given the seeming positive news

Is it possible he had a nerve shock like banging your elbow? Never heard of a knee funny bone

We still have to worry about cartilage and stuff

If an internet basketball board post were enough to kill radiology, we're thoroughly underutilizing this technology!

However, in respect of yours and all our careers, AI is evil and should be stopped now!

New York’s players, borderline jubilant in the visitor’s locker room postgame after what was arguably their gutsiest win of the season, were also told Brunson’s injury does not appear to be serious.

“I asked him if he was okay, and he said he’ll be fine,” Donte DiVincenzo said. “And that’s everything to me. … I don’t worry about Jalen. He’s one of the toughest guys in the league.”

This is from today's game - DiVo has a stock standard set of responses for sure :)

People keep saying he didn't get hit..but he actually did. It was like a delayed reaction. And sometimes the effects come seconds after the cause. If you watch it, he got hit trying to go through... seconds later he tried to plant and boom.

It's an agreement with the owner of RealGM. Keeps the posts flowing. :D
