Donovan is only a shade over 6’1” barefoot.
Idk why he’s listed at 6’3” again all of the sudden, but he is 6’1” and that’s what he was listed at like 2 years ago. The whole NBA height correction thing where everyone is supposed to be listed barefoot didnt last long or apply to everyone I guess. He has a long wingspan, but his standing reach still suffers because of his height.
Either way I wouldn’t be completely opposed to getting him if we think nobody else is going to be available, but he would be insanely expensive still and the fit is questionable.
Brunson is about 6’1 with girth/heft and Spida is closer to 6’3 with wingspan. Remember when FVV and Lowry won together when Kawhi joined up? We’ve got OG to be our Kawhi lite… just need another 3&d stud at that point and we’ll easily contend.
Man, I feel like your comparison is a bit ironic and I agree with it because it supports my point.
First, one piece you're not really thinking through is that a stud 3&D player will not come cheap. Getting OG required some key assets from the Knicks and we're about to make him a very very rich man. Jaden McDaniels...MAX. Boston Celtics have solid 3&D guys who are studs in Tatum and Jaylen (overpaid). Mikal...lol. Jerami Grant, who is controversial here,...paid. Paul George is about to get MAXED. Indiana's guys are solid but they are calling the cops about Brunson abuse. So either you pay a lot for a really good 3&D guy like OG, or you get guys like Kawhi, Tatum or PG13, or you get super lucky, or you get someone who gets abused.
Moreover, I feel like Kyle Lowry and FVV are a bit small, yes, but they're actually the type of players I'd want to surround Brunson with at guard: tough defenders, able to play off ball, score in a pinch. When you bring up those guys, I don't think of Donovan Mitchell. I actually think of a shorter but tough guard on our team who plays really strong defense (much better than Mitchell) and can shoot the three and play offball. His name is Miles McBride.
Brunson
Miles
Kawhi
OG
Center
I'd feel pretty comfortable with this. This is the type of team I'd been arguing for all along. It works financially because McBride is so cheap and he's already on our roster.
Now the big problem is that we obviously can't get prime Kawhi (and the guy is hurt and also weird)...so the really really tough question is what do we do? The dream acquisition is Giannis. Then you have the old guys, PG13, Butler, Lebron, Durant. Those guys would provide a lot more roster balance, and in the short-term, much better championship prospects than Mitchell. Brandon Ingram? I don't know, but like your example shows, Miles McBride can work as a partner to Jalen Brunson if we get the right 3&D guy next to him.
