Wiretap: J O'neal being shopped

Post#1 » by fimo » Tue Jan 6, 2009 12:47 am

we all know he's playing on 2 broken legs but he makes almost the same amount of money as Stephon.(with an extra year tagged on there) No other team will bite on him with a contract that massive (ends in 2010 at 20mi). Toronto would be saving ALOT of money for the mini free agent bonanza of 09. If they sign one of these FA's in 09 they would probably have a better chance of keeping Bosh happy in 2010.

if we can pull off a trade centerd around Stephon for Joneal and some how get camby in a deal centered around david lee we'd be looking at a Joneal-Camby-Chandler front court.

if these guys stay healthy we'd make major noise for the second half of the year...if they get hurt we'll get a lottery pick. Either way we win and both salaries come off the books in 2010. Those two players would be an excellent stop gap and will keep things interesting in MSG until 2010. Who knows...maybe both will reup with us in 2010 for the vet min , finish up their careers in style and contribute off the bench. I mean if PJ brown helped Boston win last year..im sure these guys can help as well in 2 years

Take JO, but give up Curry. This clears even more cap for 2010 and gives us a defensive big if he can EVER get healthy.

Curry
Rose (or q since they need a two)
for
JO

I feel like Toronto might bite on that, Curry backing up Bosh and Bargnani isnt terrible.

J O'Neal out again w Knee problems. That ship has passed, let him stay Torontos problem. Camby sure, he can play and is healthy, JO is washed. Why help Toronto out when we want to steal Bosh? No to JO, he's just another heartbreaker we don't need around here as we rebuild. Yeah, he'll have a good game here and there and then sit for a dozen. No.

Id take him for Marbruy in a flash. Hes a greta player whos been injured too long. He wouldnt have to play major mins but hed be a great guy to have.

When we sign Barsh and LBJ he can stay on like McDyess did in Det

Posted this on the Bulls Board. They hated it.

What do you think?

Chi gets O'Neal
NY gets Hughes, Gooden, Noah + Top 10 Protected Pick from Chi
Toronto gets Steph/Roberson

EDIT: They want JO but just hate everything NYK (obviously).

NYK is not to help any team with a Top FA we may covet for 2010 FA class. :wavefinger:

Eh, I don't like it because it's too much for a guy that isn't that good anymore.

He's 2010, which helps, but so is Hughes. Gooden, Noah AND a 1st round pick is a lot, especially since there's a chance a pick may be from 11-14.

I'd trade Curry but not much else.

I took out the pick but then it's not very enticing too us because we're taking salary next year and only adding NOAH who has been underwhelming.

The idea was to get you guys the player you wanted, and help Toronto clear CAP for next year. They do get Steph to help create shots for their other players.

Other than that, I just don't see how Chi can get JO... not with some of those proposals that include Hughes/Noc/Hinrich, etc.... Toronto is not going to add salary unless it is a SIGNIFICANT talent upgrade.

Curry and Jeffries, since just Curry doesn't work. I don't want to give up anything else for him. It may be unfair for Toronto, but that should be the only deal NY should consider.

Their 2010 plan is not as simple as ours.

1) They still have salary to shed to get there.

2) They have much more "young" talent to make decisions on than we do.

So, that's the price they have to make. Seriously, they just won the LOTTERY, and have gotten players in in for 9 straight years! If they're worrying about a pick from 11 to 14...then I just don't know what to say.

Curry + Rose for JO. We take on the extra salary next year, they take on Curry's salary for the year after. I think twice before doing that and probably not doing it.

JO can't even play spot minutes? People wouldn't do a deal like the one where the Knicks sent A. Davis to the Raptors for Jalen Rose and a first rounder? How about Marbury for JO and a second rounder?
