I don't believe Simons is significantly better, if at all, than Monk. If they're basically the same from an impact perspective, then give me the guy that only costs money and not picks/players.

Maximize the assets.

I agree with that thinking…but I still like Simons better…especially, if there’s some Weltman 3d chess going on where, by sending out salaried players…we keep enough cap space to ALSO upgrade C or, at least, bench strength.

This framework allows us to acquire two free agents and trade WCJ+Cole for another player.

Out <-- Cole, Fultz, Harris, WCJ, Ingles
In <-- free agent, free agent, trade target

Point guard: AB
Combo guard: free agent
Shooting guard: Suggs
Swingman: Jett
Small forward: Franz
Combo forward: trade target
Power forward: Paolo
Combo big: JI
Power center: free agent
Quick center: Moritz

I was all in on getting a starting guard until I realized it would likely push AB to swingman and Jett to the deep bench. Can't have that!

Big deal, let's go get Lamelo Ball. He's a player who, if we add him to Paolo and Franz, we will then be contending.

Dude is not even available, it’s like the Magic trading Paolo, lol.

The thread says "Free agency AND trade ideas"

You must have missed that lol

Man, if this is what we are doing here why don’t we also go after Joker, Giannis, and Doncic all we have to do is give up Cole, Moe, and JI, right? You are thinking too small Stallion lol.

I know this is “Free agency AND trade ideas” but there has to be some sense of realism and logic with some of these things, lol.

George is an LA kid.. the two things Orlando has in its favor is warm weather like Los Angeles and no state income tax. How they get him is if Paolo, Franz, and Jalen recruit him.. especially Paolo this summer he'll have access to George. Also, Mosley won't have to play PG13 heavy minutes in the regular season and that will help keep him healthy. If his agent is open to listening you throw the whole bank at him.. a 3 year deal.

I think Kris Middleton could be a target, too. He has 2 years, $60m left on his deal. I'd take him in a salary dump scenario.

No. They can take Cole, our 18th pick, and next year’s pick. We just need him to quietly ask out and ‘force’ his way home. A young reclamation project and 2 1sts should be enough to snag a player like Simons.

Naw, I would gladly give up AB and Jett for Simons. I would rather keep 18 and choose someone like Carrington or Carter.

I stand corrected then. I don’t have access to prior year EPM and I was going off of tweets (maybe from mid season from previous years) so my bad about that. How do you pull prior year EPM?

You did say above though that Simons had a defensive EPM ranking of 351 last season - by far his best defensive season then.

Last season, Simons:

- Started the most games of his career
- Played the most minutes of his career
- Played on the most competitive team he’s been on as a starter
- Started next to Josh Hart and Nurkic

Although it’s not great he trended down defensively this season, maybe he could get back to the 300-350 range on this team?

I’d feel pretty confident in betting that any guard that starts on this team next to Suggs won’t grade out as a league worst defender

Of course, how much I actually want Simons on this team is completely relative to how much it would take to get him and I don’t think it would take much to get him

Re: durability, Simons got shut down for tanking at least once recently…I’m not aware of any major injuries.

Imo, Monk is a really good fit and gettable…but Simons is even better at the same things… better and more proven for a longer time. He’d be an awesome addition…Monk would be very good in the same spot with the same role, benefits, and liabilities…Simons’ elite shooting is the differentiator and also a direct plug for our most gaping hole.

I question the significance of individual defensive stats when so much of it is reliant on the team…I’m not saying he’s a great defender, or even a good one, but team dynamic might be the #1 factor.

Monk has performed on a decent team. Fans and teammates love him.

Simmons is on a bad team. I’m not sure Fans or teammates care if Simmons leaveing.

There is a lot of love for Simons in Portland.

any moves we make this offseason, i hope centers on just using capspace for 3 years. i dont want to make and impulsive trade that sends out all our future 1sts for the next five years, or sign a guy who doesnt fit our time line for 4-5years. dream scenario, sign tyus jones front load it to a high number but for only 3 years.

Monk for less than 90M /4yr is my pick, he would be a huge asset and potentially a great trade chip to go after guys like Mitchell or Murray
Draft Carter
Sign monk
Trade Cole for a forward
Let chuma+fultz go
Offer Harris and goga a 1+1 deal

unleash Jett next seaon

Go Magic

Suggs, AB, Carter
Monk, Jett, Harris
Franz, Jett, Houstan
Paolo, Moe, (Cole trade)
Wcj, JI, goga

Isaac, WCJ and a first for Murray. Sign Tyus Jones and Claxton.

PG: Jones/AB/Anthony
SG: Murray/Suggs/Howard
SF: Franz/Houstan
PF: Paolo/?
Center: Claxton/Wagner/Goga

Won't happen though. Either the Magic want nothing to do with Murray because of something-something off-court issues (quelle horreur), or the Hawks are asking the moon for him.

Murray is a PG …he’d clearly be starting next to Suggs. That’s why playing next to Trae was a fail…they hoped. Murray could play off- ball and he could, to a degree,…but, Trae is the most ball-dominant guy in the league, so it clearly compromised Murray. Whenever Trae was out, Murray went wild. Tyus should be the best backup PG in the league but will, by now, be getting starter money…so, he’s unlikely after Murray. Certainly be a nice luxury to have both, but Tyus’ recent overpayment probably kills that. Murray/Claxton would be an amazing summer. Perhaps even find a way to keep Isaac, who makes the same as Tyus…but I know he was key in your Murray trade. If Isaac had to be included, perhaps we keep WCJ to backup 4/5.
