Lol we could potentially start a European war in the locker room with 3 Germans and 1 Italian heritage player. I’m torn on the right fit to be honest. Paolo has the potential to be so great but he has the ball in his hand so much. What’s it going to look like with a true point guard initiating the offense? The offense would really have to change a lot wouldn’t it? Where as a knock down 3 point sniper is going to spread the floor and open up the paint for Paolo and Franz. Is there a point guard out there right now that offers both of those abilities ? Can we redo the draft and take Jordan Hawkins instead of Jet lol? I liked Hawkins and his ability to utilize screens and be a 3 point threat without having the ball in his hand. Time will tell though if Jet can be that, but the pre draft tapes showed Jordan Hawkins already being that.

I’m thinking it’s not a “real PG” in the vein of CP3, Tyus, or even Schroeder (although a guy like that on the bench would be nice when things get sloppy). I’m DEFINITELY not ripping the ball out of Paolo & Franz’ hands…just offering them support and a real 3rd creator option when good teams clamp down on them (which they will more and more)…I’m thinking more like Murray, Monk, Simons.

My redraft would be Cason Wallace more than Hawkins (but I really like Hawkins too). Wallace is a combo guard, fierce defender, makes open 3’s and can handle & distribute “enough” to fill in the gaps…imagine Fultz with some off-ball value. I don’t see ANY shot-hunting or PG play from AB yet, but maybe we get a little more next year…his length, defense, and vibe are great but I don’t see the skill.

Btw, doesn’t Devin Carter smell a lot like Cason?

OKC drafts so damn good, they drafted and lost three HOF players ( Durant,Westbrook, & Russell) and still here they are this year as the #1 seed in the ridiculously tough west. That is the reason I’d love our front office to explore a bit of a business relationship with them. Orlando and OKC are both young teams but on the opposite end of the spectrum and timeline. I’ve said it before but Chet and JI on the same team at the same time, or JI coming off their bench. I’d scratch their back now if they would scratch ours later lol. I’ve seen D. Carters name tied to ours either in this forum or on mock drafts, I need to watch some videos on him.

Yep. OKC is awesomely well-run. Contenders with a VERY young roster and a mountain of picks in their pocket. They got a head start by stealing ALL-NBA SGA to begin the rebuild. Admittedly, they had a HOF’er to kick start. We did well with Vuc, but he’s no Paul George.

I don’t think we’re far behind and we could close the gap this summer AND get younger at the same time, by cleaning out our FA’s.

I haven’t followed college bball too closely this season, but recently watched some Devin Carter film and said …”Cason 2.0” immediately.

I don’t think I would. Cole’s far from untouchable but Schroeder’s known to be kind of aloof. Cole’s personality is so good that the minor bball upgrade doesn’t justify the potential locker room issues. Idk if Schroeder’s personality suits a minor role…I’d also be concerned about fueling a clique on a really unified team. PG has a lot of say where the ball goes…can’t risk Paolo feeling un-German.

I absolutely hated the AB pick, I didn’t see whatever it was they seen in him. I’m no expert but his college stats didn’t scream point guard to me with his low assist ratio to turnovers, nor did I see this amazing connector piece. I seen a kid you could leave open to shoot that also isn’t going to kill you as a point guard and passer. For lack of comparison, a younger taller Markel Fultz. He has surprised me some this season with his shot, BUT I don’t see the handles at all. I think after the draft I said we just picked Elfred Payton 2.0 all the way down to the floppy hair lol. I hate that we didn’t see him play this year, they let him rot away on the bench. Especially frustrating was this happened right after one of his best games of the season in Dallas. I think he had like 20 points that game, he was in a zone and I wanted to see him grow off of that. Instead he started racking up DNP’s and it was head scratching. I imagine as a young rookie that had to be especially tough. They messed up by not at least sending him to the G-League IMO. I know this isn’t baseball and you don’t use a farm team to develop players, BUT if you’re doing it with Jet why not also AB?

Also about AB, I hate seeing a kid this young and raw sitting down on the very end of the bench. To me you are losing him by doing this. He should be right up there at the front of the bench sitting next to assistant coaches listing and learning. He’s handled this very well that speaks to his character i believe so hopefully whoever is making decisions changes that next season.

I hated the Black pick at the time as well. Dont hate it at all now. I see the vision with AB-Suggs backcourt. Am i 100% confident it will work? No, but AB wont hit his prime until like 5 years from now. Suggs will continue to improve. We will see.

Same here, I don’t hate the pick anymore but he’s so raw and honestly how’s he going to get better on the bench. It’s year one BUT if they do this to him again next season I’ll be worried. I do see natural defensive capabilities as a rookie that makes him a worthy project, and perhaps that’s in fact the same thing the FO seen.

Im sure he'll get more playing time next season.

Plus this is the playoffs.... This is not the regular season. Teaching is not priority .... Being in the ear of the players that are going to be on the court is the priority of the assistant coaches.

BUT.... I fully expect more from him next season. He has had his chance to cut his teeth this season.... And shown promise in his limited role. And yes.... His role has been dramatically limited... Like most of the 2nd guards as Paolo and Franz have been the focus of the playmaking. He's already shown to be a very strong perimeter defender.... And might be a perfect pairing with Suggs... And I believe that his playmaking and offensive impact will take leaps in the future.

I wish I saw in AB what others see. I just see a defensive specialist/role player. Not a key backcourt fixture and definitely not a playmaker.

Don’t see us bringing in DLo. He doesn’t seem like a culture fit.

I liked Black selection and i still do but i cant see a scenario where they both start. Neither has great handle, neither can run pick and roll, neither is great shooter.

I'm hoping those Paul George rumors aren't true, last thing we need is to give a max contract to an aging guy who can't stay on the court

I hope he EARNS some playing time next season…he might- 2nd year is sometimes the big one for guys who are either overwhelmed or nervous rookies…hopefully, that’s it.

Dont worry, even if it is, i do not think we beat PHI. Path to a ring is closer for PG with PHI than with us i think.

I mean Suggs is developing into a damn good shooter, and Black has made incredible progress in such a short amount of time. We'll see. We're going to see that backcourt again next season. I believe in Black and Suggs' work ethic. As for ball handling, and running the offense, that will mainly be on Franz and Paolo. This means that both of them will have to improve as well.

Like i said, im not 100% convinced, but i see the vision. Where Black steps in as a guard that can be effective without the ball (catch and shoot, set screens, play defense, cuts), but also potentially run the offense a little (while allowing franz and PAolo to be the main ball-handlers), get to the rim. finish in transition. I have a hard time projecting what Black can be right now, as we only saw him in a very limited role, but he's still only 20 years old. He may not be ready next year or ever, but i am saying i think i get what the FO saw when they drafted him.

And i think the FO and Coaching staff will have the best idea of that projection. Personally.... i'd be happy with him coming in next year with a solid chance if they believe in him. as you said... they drafted him for a reason....AND that goes for Howard as well. I'm excited to see their future.
