The Magic only have to be the best of the three teams I believe.

Where the Wizards and Suns end up doesn’t matter provided the Magic are better than both of them.

Hypothetical…

Suns 9th pick

Wizards pick 12th

Magic pick 15th

The Wizards would have the right to swap and move up to 9th, but the Magic would still have the right to swap and move up to 12th as well.

Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

How many pick swaps are possible with a single pick?

It's a sneaky good deal. Kevin Durant will be 37 in 2026. Who knows what the Suns look like in 3 years. The Magic would hopefully be a playoff team and could potentially make a swap with Phoenix to move up in the draft assuming the Suns fallout. Good move!

completely disagree. completely. Orlando is getting better and should each year. instead of possibly picking up some good role players, or add it into a package for a player, they are doing what, 3 2nd round picks to possibly move down a couple of slots?

Booker is 26 and under contract past 2026. I dont see this team being in the lottery in 3 years. if by chance they do, they will be at the very end of it. Orlando may not be in lottery, but are not going to be a top-4 team by then, so this is to what, move up 4-5 slots?

meanwhile, the list of role players that would improve the team grows every year. We couldnt use Herb Jones? Couldnt have taken a flyer on Vukcevic to develop? maybe spend another year overseas or be with the team now? or swung on GG Jackson?

this is just continued mis-management of our 2nd round picks by this lazy front office.

Nice to see that even with a new GM and VP, we are going to continue our tradition of completely ignoring the 2nd round of the draft and just give away the picks for nothing

I mean we get SECOND chance to swap, so really what are we getting from this? MAYBE move up 1-2 picks at the end of the first round assuming we are somehow better than both the wiz and suns?

Seriously such a dumb move

Even giving those 3, what are we getting in return? likely nothing?

Phoenix is probably gearing up to make an offer for Lillard. They still have a first in 26 and now 3 seconds. They could make an offer for Nurkic and Grant. The new owner has a lot of money to spend.

Nurkic
Grant
Durant
Booker
Beal

It's completely contingent on where the teams fall in the standings 3 years from now. It's partly a bet on the Magic being better than the Suns and Wizards. It could be nothing. But, considering the quality of the 2nd round picks given up, they basically gave up nothing for the chance to gain something in 3 years. They essentially gave up 2nd round picks from Denver, Milwaukee, and Boston that are bound to be in the 50s.

Meh, it isn't a big deal. The Magic own all of their own draft picks in the future and have a ton of extra 2nd rounders.

So if I have this right...

2024 - Still have their own 2nd
2025 - Own, plus another
2026 - Two (least favorable of three is gone)
2027 - Own, plus another
2028 - Two (a possible one gone)

Phoenix would have to package Ayton and a few fillers for Lillard or Grant/Nurkic.

Simons and Nurkic for Ayton and Cam Payne would work.

This is a sneaky good trade.

The 2nd round picks that Orlando is sending out are going to be bad.

This swap in 2026 could really pay off.

In 2026, The Magic are likely to be a good team.

Washington is unlikely to be better than them and given the age of Bradley Beal and Kevin Durant, Phoenix could be mid-first round or maybe late lottery.

Even if this deal could result in moving up 5 spots, it's a good one for picks for 2nds that would be so bad, they would not be able to get future 2nds returned for them. They would all probably be dealt for cash.

This is a low risk, high reward.

BTW: Only potentially the 2026 2nd (provided does not become Orlando's) was acquired on a Draft Night for a future 2nd.

It shows how future 2nds can be valuable although the ones dealt out today will never be better than mid-40's.
