Black was projected as the 6th pick 5 out of 8 projections. Projected top 8th, projected as high a 4th once. Tell me what crystal ball people are using to say that there was no upside and there was obviously better players on the board.

Like holy cow, project this hate on to Jett Howard please!

I thought I was muted when I refreshed the 3.0 thread. Was sad, because at my age, if I am going to be muted it has to be in a blaze of glory.

Easy Summer.

1. Let Fultz, Harris, and Okeke leave to FA.
2. Pick up Team Options on Ingles and Moritz.
3. Sign Klay Thompson and Tyus Jones.
4. Draft C Ulrich Comche
5. Trade 2nd Rounders for Cash Considerations.

PG Tyus Jones / Anthony Black / Cole Anthony
SG Klay Thompson / Jalen Suggs
SF Franz Wagner / Jett Howard / Joe Ingles
PF Paolo Banchero / Jonathan Isaac
C Wendell Carter Jr/ Moritz Wagner / Ulrich Comche

It starts by not trading your 2nd round picks for cash...

We can’t sign Klay and Jones 32 million cap space. Also need to add another free-agent. They combined for 51 million this year.

I wonder if Collin Sexton can be had for a pick.

6'3", 25 years old, 40% from deep, 62% TS%, and signed to a team-friendly deal for the next 2 years.

Wendell is starting to become a huge problem for us. Its an absolute must we upgrade at his position

I like Moe Wagner off the bench, hell I like Goga
But Hartenstein would fit in really well. Im throwing a bag at him and trading Wendell as soon as free agency starts

He still gets the same minutes and we get a championship.

Orlando needs a veteran guard that can shoot consistently from deep. There is no other need to consider until that need is met.

Suggs will be a starter next year, so the Magic either needs an off-ball PG.
Names: Coby White, Monte Morris, or Payton Pritchard.

Or Suggs needs to be the off-ball PG meaning the Magic should go full 3D with the SG slot. There are probably 20 players that fit in here, as a bunch of "SFs" could play a 3D SG role for the Magic.
After the obvious fit of Anfernee Simons, to keep flogging his name, I cannot see a better choice than Luke Kennard in this role. But again, we could all rip off 20 names that slot in to what "Kennard" would give.

absolutely this. 2nd round picks are not guaranteed contracts. Its your lottery ticket to take a flyer on a player.

Orlando's ESPN BPI is -0.1 while our actual margin of victory is 1.94. The computers really are not buying our success and the front office shouldn't, either.

But don’t say the phrase “fool’s gold”, because some people will squeal like a pig stuck under a gate.

This has been a very successful season. But I maintain what I’ve been saying for a while now that the Magic very obviously need significant personnel changes (at least 3 rotation upgrades and potentially 4+) to take the significant next step forward.

We've won more than you'd predict by our MOV, and our MOV is higher than you'd predict by our BPI. This is evidence of "fools gold".

On the flip side this overachievement is on the backs of a young core. Paolo (21), Franz (22), and Suggs (22) are driving wins. Their development will drive year over year improvement.

Cole and JI have been important. Moe is borderline.

AB and Jett are in the development pipeline and should join Cole and JI in leading us to wins.

That said, this front office absolutely has to upgrade everywhere else. Really that's just 2 players "missing". Find at least one of them this off-season.

The lineups that we've been playing don't give us the best chance to win. The lineups with Fultz haven't been working. Wendell is only effective when his shots fall. I'd rather have a center that protects the rim and gets offensive rebounds every game. Wendell has higher peaks, but what Goga does is sustainable.

So something like:

Core: Paolo, Franz, Suggs

Role players: Cole, JI

Pipeline: AB, Jett

Borderline: Moritz

That's 8 players

Open roles:
Starting Center, starting guard, backup guard, backup forward

That's 4 roles. None of which should be filled by WCJ, Fultz, Harris, or Ingles next season.

I think there is an element of truth to it, which makes it provocative. It should at least be considered and used as motivation to avoid complacency. We are closer to our final form than was likely but far enough away that there is plenty of critical retooling remaining.

Add "sunk cost" to the trigger list....and for a select few fans, "change" or "doubts". On my side of the ledger, you can get a rise out of me with "not skipping steps", "organic", and the prayerful use of "development".
