Yeah, and it wasn't even that good in the regular season if I remember the lineup data correctly. JI's fit for big minutes just might not be there.SOUL wrote:thelead wrote:eyriq wrote:I'm still devastated about the death lineup. It turned into the turnstile lineup.
Did you know that even Michael Jordan lost games? The death lineup is not going to work every single night and every single minute.
I mean.. it also just makes for clunky offense. I always thought it's a better prevent lineup, as in we need to stop a team from coming back from 5-7 points behind. People keep talking about isos but when it's Franz and Paolo's bread and butter, and Suggs isn't making any threes, just having 4 big dudes out there means you want to utilize screening and get some downhill stuff going.. maybe a kick out for a corner three but I don't think they're afraid of Wendell threes.

No disagreement from me. It's a defensive unit more than a 'go get us a lead' unit... but it is one of the best options Mosley has right now.

All the lineups and strategy talk and I'm over here feeling a way about our horrid FT shooting.

Meh. They hit .759% of their FTs tonight. That's exactly their average from the regular season.

There it is. Unacceptable. Personally I've seen enough, I don't think JI is scalable.Knightro wrote:eyriq wrote:Yeah, and it wasn't even that good in the regular season if I remember the lineup data correctly. JI's fit for big minutes just might not be there.

I hope it’s not all gloom and doom here. This team was leading with less than 2 mins left, on the road, while the starting backcourt shot a combined 5-17 from the field and 0-7 from 3, also missed 7 FTs overall and had 4 more turnovers. Once this team upgrades the guard and 3pt scoring issue and Paolo/Franz/Suggs get more experience this team is contending for titles. This group is just starting out earning their playoff lumps. They’re going to get better, get smarter, and they will learn to execute better in time.

Yep and it wasn't good enough. Is what it is though. They aren't a good FT shooting team percentage wise so it's par for the course.

Ah well... home game. Could be our last. Everyone should show out and defend their home.

Unfortunately thats among the bottom, 5th worst and very close to 2nd worst. That has to improve. Feels like a lack of focus issue.

They let that one get away. Franz needs to learn the unwritten rules.. always take the 3 to win on the road.

I feel like it was the only guy he could guard on the court. Looking at the video, the guys on the court were Strus, Mobley, Garland, Levert, and Thompson. Strus just parks on the outside most of the time. The 4 other guys would either kill him off the dribble or kill him in the post.

The first one is primarily Fultz's fault for being so lazy in getting over the initial screen and creating a trickle down effect on the defensive rotation. Because Markelle is so far behind the action, Moritz has to step up to prevent an easy path to the rim for Garland. But Moe stepping up means he has to leave Mobley. Cole is doing what he's supposed to do and tagging Mobley to prevent an easy dump or lob to Mobley at the rim. Garland to his credit reads the defensive rotations correctly and makes the right read to the corner for the open catch-and-shoot 3.
Could Cole have read what Garland was going to do quicker? Probably, but if he doesn't crash down Garland's probably throwing a lob to Mobley for a layup.
If Fultz gets over the initial screen from Morris better (and it looks like Morris never even made contact with him), then Moritz doesn't have to step up and Cole never has to come down and tag. And maybe Garland is taking a contested floater or getting in the air with no clear place to pass it.
The second one is good defense IMO. Strus hit a tough shot against as good of a contest as you can legally do against a movement shooter without being in his landing space.
