Marc Stein DISLIKES SVG?

Post#1 » by BoricuaBoi » Mon Apr 6, 2009 3:44 pm

Is it just me or has Marc Stein seem to get irritated with Stan Van Gundy after he posts his weekly Power Rankings?

Week 22 54-18
If Stan Van Gundy meant the "whatever" part in the following quote -- "Some people still have the same [unflattering] opinion of us, so whatever" -- why does he keep lodging the same complaint almost every week?

Week 19 46-16
Forget all the Shaq stuff. This week's real SVG story is why the coach chose to loudly lament the media's supposed lack of respect for his team right after it nearly blew a 22-point lead to the injury-riddled Celts.

Week 18 43-16
We know Stan Van Gundy is prone to erupt after bad losses, but I suspect he kinda believed it when he said that the Magic -- even after the Alston acquisition -- are "kidding ourselves" to think they can go far.

Does he have something against SVG or something? Its kinda like an old bitter girlfriend or something. I guess we will see what he has to say this week.

I personally dont care either but it does get me thinking, does Stein have something against SVG? I mean it sounds like he gets easly annoyed by Stan. Marcs a punk anyway so I could care less about him. This is the man that still doesnt think we have the IT factor to progress in the playoffs this this. MAN I wish I could be an analyst you get paid all that money to talk crap.

You may be right, from my personal experience in the press, every journo has a hidden agenda since we're all humans and objectivity is just a myth. See also Brian "BS" Schmitz for reference :D

Like Howard said in his blog, the more haters you have, the more success you're getting (or something along those lines).

Well, as obnoxious as it is for Stein to call out a coach for demanding more respect for his team, he does sort of have a point. SVG does do a lot of whining to the press about respect when our biggest claim to fame this era is a second-round Playoff appearance. We're at the very beginning of our window for title contention, and it will be open for a very long time.

Here's what he has to say this week about Orlando, ranking the Magic number 3:

Shaky as they looked in their recent wins over beat-up Boston, there was nothing iffy about what the Magic just did to Cleveland and Atlanta. So maybe the drop off from Jameer to Rafer isn't nearly as steep as people think.

No mention of SVG, just an appropriate nod to the thorough stomping of Cleveland.

Not sure I would want to work for Stan-the-Man, but as a fan, his results (not his methods) are what I care about :)

Marc Stein has never been a fan of Orlando, so anything positive out of him is a bonus.

You have to ask Stein, how the media would have reacted if Cavs had beaten the Magic, like the way the Magic beat the Cavs. The amount of visible and pro-active respect (not the ones that come after asking them) should tell why SVG is right in his frustrations. One good playoff run should be enough, and that means, Magic playing at least the finals in the east this year.

Stein = whatever.......
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability
