I’d rather have Mitchell. He can be the engine of an offense by himself; he just needs a PF-C player who can run the two-man game with him and help on offense. The Cavs thought their backcourt would be the answer, or maybe they were expecting Mobley to be further developed offensively by this stage.

I actually think Mitchell would be a good fit with Embiid. However, I don't like the fit of Mitchell with Maxey, specially with what we need to give up to get him and what we still need once we have him.

How does this reconcile with what we saw from Hield in an admittedly small but convincing sample size?

Garland, easily. He has a complete offensive game, while Mitchell is a scorer and a ball stopper.

Besides, Mitchell will never be a hotter commodity than he is right now, and if the Cavs are smart and patient, moving Mitchell in one trade and either Mobley or Allen in another would set them up for the next half-decade plus. The Allen-Mobley frontcourt has proven it can't succeed beyond the regular season, but keeping one of them (I would keep Allen) and plugging in a real stretch-4 would open that offense up.

I would move Mitchell and Allen, but fully agree on the idea for the Cavs here.

I only said Mobley instead of Allen because Mobley still seems like a tweener, albeit a very talented one, who may never be anything beyond that. His offensive game has barely developed beyond what it was when he entered the league. That, and Mobley will bring more in a trade.

Asking old heads, was injury that rampant and big of a factor back then?

I just hate having to watch basketball and having to worry this much on the variance of a player’s health

I don't recall fear of injury or the need to "load manage" players ever being even a thought in the '70's through the early '90's. Players just played, period, and were expected to and wanted to play hurt if they could in the playoffs.

It's really been the last 15 years or so that this has really been a thing. The first time I remember even hearing the term was with Kahwi. Guys played 72-75+ games routinely until they retired, it wasn't even something thought about.

Sixers sure weren't thinking about it when they traded Moses for Jeff Ruland

I think the game is just way more physically demanding now. Maybe not as much contact & collision but the stress players put on their knees & ankles is crazy now. Defenders have to cover a ton of space in rotations, change of direction happens quicker, etc. I think the NBA’s decision to incentivize space & pace has directly led to more injuries.

It seems to me that the way to counter this is to lessen the load on the player. Either the entire team must collectively carry their weight on both ends, like the Celtics do, or the top players should rest on one side of the floor, preferably on defense, like the Mavs do.

While the top players can rest, the team won't be left with a big hole because they carry their own weight, like the Celtics, or have a backup engine, like the Mavs with Kyrie running the offense when Doncic sits.

That's why a Thibs team will never be more than a solid, hard working team that might get to the 2nd round or to the ECF in a season like this one. You can't beat your team into the ground on both ends and expect to survive an endless season and playoffs.

Sixers really need to lean hard on Jo to relinquish the reigns on offense and pick them up on defense for this reason.

Tremendous comeback by the Wolves. Ant v. Luka in the West.

Also yet another year an ECF berth was wasted.

Bad news is this probably means Boston walks to a title, which is frustrating.

Wolves can beat Boston easily. If they can beat the Nuggets they can beat the Cs.

Wolves having McDaniels on a contract through 2029 paying him under $30M/year is an incredible deal.

Boston can exploit Gobert and Towns even more than Denver can. And Minnesota feels to me like they're one gun short in a gunfight. It's certainly possible, though.

Luka does have a history of fathering Boston, however. Would be awesome to see more of it in the Finals. And there's a Star Wars meme in there somewhere.

OKC should make the Godfather offer for Giannis.

Chet-Giannis-SGA owns the league.

Jalen WIlliams/Giddey and Picks won't get you Giannis, definitely need Chet.

I've been told the Sixers may just want picks if they ever decide to trade Embiid, so don't see why that wouldn't apply to Milwaukee and Giannis as well.

I'm not buying that. It wouldn't make a lot of sense.

Both match-ups between the Celtics and Wolves this past season went to OT with both teams taking a win.

Personally it's the match-up I want to watch the most. I think Dallas' brand of ball is gross.
