Not quite. Team cohesion was a bigger issue, as evidenced by the fact that the US could just wake up an all-star team in July, practice near a resort for a week or two and play in a major tournament against squads that had been playing together for years.

Shooting definitely was an issue too.

Not saying it wasn't. But the fact that they played like a bunch of individuals didn't help the issue. Nor did the idea that they lacked role definition as a whole in the creation of the roster(which is where the lack of designated shooters comes in).

Practice update: No practice for Iverson (left knee synovitis). He had 55 CC's of fluid drained this morning and is listed as day-to-day.

Green is probable for tomorrow vs. Nuggets

IMHO...While shooting was a problem in 2004 and the lack of cohesion didn't help the biggest problem was Brown's coaching malpractice.

My point...

You have the deepest and most athletic team in the tourney. You've got a roster that you can truly go 12 deep because your 12th man is a star player while 1-5 are superstars.

What should you do? Press the ever living hell out of the opponent. Run athletes at the opponents in waves. Challenge EVERY inch on the court. Turn the game into a track meet. Make every pass an adventure.

To me it's basketball 101. Then again...I'm just a guy with 41 year old knees sitting in his living room in his fuzzy slippers so what do I know.

Agreed. It is not too far away from what the Sixers should be doing, ironically.

I've always advocated a press/trap defense with this team. Even more so because of EB/Sam down there to protect the paint. Such a defense may not work against the Nash/Pauls most of the time because of their quickness. But it may force them into turnovers and limit their effectiveness.

Iverson is playing after having 55 ccs of fluid drained from his knee Sunday.

Speights (partially torn MCL) practiced the previous two days and is getting close.

Holiday is starting in place of Brand against the Warriors' small lineup.

Asked if the defense has been better the past few games, Jordan said, "It's up to you guys (writers). We always put effort into it."

Brand is coming off bench against small, quick Warriors.

Battle of 14th-place teams in their respective conferences ...

sweet lets not take advantage of our size in the paint and try to out run the fastest team in the league. Clever.

At least its Jrue getting minutes, if it was Green I'd seriously think Eddie was doing some heavy drinking in the pre-game.

The true sign of a losing team right there. Changing what we do to try to matchup with the other team. Why not try to use our size to our advantage instead of trying to beat them at their own game? When was the last time the Celtics, Lakers, Cavs, Magic changed their starting lineup to adjust to the freakin Warriors?

Teams that win games don't adjust to their opponent, they make their opponent adjust to them. This is getting ridiculous.

The correct answer would be no, the team has not played better D, they've played slower pace teams, one of whom shoots worse from deep than the Sixers did last year. So, EJ really needs to stop the Circle-Jerk and stfu
