Perhaps the least bad available option will be to just pay Miles Bridges $25m / yr. Leaves around $40m of cap to sign several additional contributors plus one more via the RE.
Just put a morals clause in the deal allowing us to void it if he continues dominating off the court.

Re: ** Official 2024 Make or Break Offseason Thread **
Hypothetical scenario.
Morey has a trade on the table to acquire Butler on draft night for the 16th pick + a future 2nd. But doing it would put them out of the running for Paul George. However, if you wait on Paul George for free agency to start and he decides to stay with the Clippers, you could end up missing out on both, because you wouldn't have the 16th pick to trade anymore and also risk Miami trading him elsewhere.
Do you think Morey would just pull the trigger on Butler on draft night and get that 3rd star taken care of so he can focus on improving the rest of the roster or do you think he'd wait it out until free agency starts in July?

This article from Liberty Ballers shows how the Oubre deal should work. Give him the Room Exception on a 1+1, which is $8m year one. Then he can opt out next summer and we can bump him up to $14m+ the first year on a new long-term deal via Early Bird Rights. That's what the Clips did with Batum and the Bucks did with Portis.

Miles Bridges at 25 million would be great. I know he makes some people Icky but if the NBA says he can play in the NBA he is going to play. He brings physicality and a skill set the Sixers need and is a classic buy low asset. He can play both forward spots in today's NBA. But Morey for all his reputation really does just star chase. Let's hope PG and Butler stay with there teams so he is forced to be creative and put together a balanced roster.

I think he would go for Butler in that scenario, yes.
(And I want him to go for Butler lol)

The Hornets have bird right and have 0 reason not to match/exceed an offer like that for Bridges. If he has a market it would be dumb for them to not at least negotiate a S&T.

I’d rather get DeRozan than pay extra (ie multiple picks) to get a likely way more expensive Butler who has now alienated another franchise.

I would rather pay more assets for Butler than less for Derozan because I don't think Derozan is very good.
I think I'd rather sign Paul George for pure cap over either of the two above, and I'd trade for Ingram for a first or two over all three other options.

He's unrestricted. They have Bird Rights but we can sign him for pure cap, and it's 100% his decision where to go. As long as the Hornets aren't willing to break the bank for him e.g. $30m+ / yr we have a good shot at him. If we want him.
As for a S&T, I'm down. We can use Tobias to Detroit to match salaries and stay over the cap, then just resign all our guys.

Draft is what 4 days or so before Free Agency? I would hope we would know if Paul George is planning to resign or come to Philadelphia by then. Otherwise Morey is washed and forgot how to tamper correctly lol.

He definitely knows how to tamper. Hiding the bread crumbs on the other hand, has not been his strong suit lately.Covi_Marsh wrote:FireMorey wrote:Hypothetical scenario.

What’s the deadline for teams to get under the second apron and avoid penalties?

If you just mean paying the luxury tax, team’s numbers are calculated at the end of the season. Like the Sixers started the year over, ended the year under so they’ll pay no tax.
The other restrictions around roster moves and stuff you just cant do if you’re over the apron, and you get hard capped at the apron if you do those moves. Like if you’re over the 2nd apron the league won’t approve you using your MLE, and if you use your MLE the league won’t approve any move that brings you over the second apron (including using the MLE).
It’s also specific to that league year, like teams that are over this season have no restrictions for next season.
Hope that makes sense.

Butler in this scenario.
There are only so many options this summer. LeBron, Siakam, and Anunoby are probably back with their current teams. George is probably 70/30 back in LA. If you have a sure thing with Butler on draft night then you have to pull the trigger.
If any of Mitchell, Ingram, or Lauri is traded this summer it will probably be later, after most of the impactful free agents are signed.

1. Draft Shannon Jr. at #16
2. Max Paul George
3. Sign Kyle Anderson and Bruce Brown (or X if he doesn’t hit free agency) with remaining cap space
4. Sign Kelly Oubre with room exception
5. Sign Payne, Batum (or Y if Batum retires), and Drummond with vet mins
Maxey/Payne
Brown/Shannon Jr.
George/Oubre
Anderson/Batum
Embiid/Drummond
Have four 1sts to toy with still.

Thanks! Yes, I was asking about the restrictions around roster moves. Does that start July 1? And if so that mean that teams above the second apron that want to get under will likely want to make any moves that get them under the apron before July 1?

Based on the fan reviews of PG, I’m completely out on the guy. He’d be a paid mercenary who won’t care whether the 76ers win or lose. He also lacks the juice to push Embiid or Maxey.

The new league year starts on July 1 or June 30, at which point everyone whose contract ended becomes a free agent and can talk to other teams, but there’s a moratorium on formally signing contracts (or making trades) until July 5. So if you agree in principle with a player on July 1 that doesn’t work with your books, you have until July 5 to make it work or you can’t sign him.
For example when the Heat signed and traded for Butler from us, it was leaked by Woj and stuff on June 30, but they didn’t actually have the cap space to do the trade. So they had to look around until they got Portland to take Whiteside which opened the space by the time the moratorium ended. Same thing with the apron rules.
Of course the player could also wait longer than July 5 for you to make it work, but they tend to not want to do that for obvious reasons.

Re: ** Official 2024 Make or Break Offseason Thread **
My two cents:
1. Work out a trade with Hawks for Dejountae Murray.
2. Pels may need to dump Ingram to be able to extend their own and build around Zion. I'd go this route before Butler and PG13. If Pels value a $30+mil trade exception perhaps they add a future 1st in to make the deal. Ingram would be in a final yr of his deal which would make him a valuable trade chip, if a disgruntled star shakes loose during the season. Ingram provides immediate upgrade over Tobias for half a season while also giving Sixers ability to trade a large expiring for a star mid-season if Ingram isn't working out perfectly.
Alternatively:
I'd go for Siakam/Murray; then PG13 and Butler last unless Butler won't cost much in assets then I'd bump Butler over PG13. PG13's skills fit better, but Butler's got that dawg mentality that you need in a playoff series.

Hot take: Butler has no suitors other than us. I predict if we trade for him it'll be at most BBall + a 2nd rounder.
