Just finished watching the game. Not too worked up about this. Morey, likely with Embiid's blessing, carried his assets and cap space beyond the deadline, so this was a team in transition. The post-Harris era should lead to a more productive cap sheet (although we also no longer have Maxey on a rookie contract) and the draft picks will be traded for true talent. I expect Maxey to ascend to actual stardom and Joel to begin his transition into post-prime defending and rebounding savant.

To be honest, I've never been more confident in the direction of the team in the Joel era despite the moving parts. It has a lot to do with Maxey but the clean cap sheet and Harden assets and a good GM are also part of it.

Not having Melton for most of the series was lowkey huge not only for his rebounding skills as a guard but also because he would have likely been Brunson's primary defender.

Wouldn't be against re-signing him for the right price which I'm sure will be lowered as a result of the seemingly chronic back injury.

Embiid isnt close to why the Sixers lost. Tobias Harris and Kyle Lowry were worthless thats why they lost that and insane officiating in game 2. Congrats to the Knicks, I take nothing away from them, but this series was super close with Embiid on one leg and a guy making 40 million scoring 9 points a game for us. There are about 1 billion alternate realities where Josh Hart shoots his season averages from 3 and the Knicks lose.

I'm a bit dissapointed with Nurse. He gave Tobias so many unwarranted minutes, took out Hield and Batum when they were hot, and honestly probably Doc Rivers would not have been much worse in this series. I know that Nurse is a better coach when he has a better team, but here he showed little willingness to improvise and adapt and if it wasn't for Maxey's insane heroics in game 5, we would have gone down 4-1 to the Knicks who only have Brunson, while we have two stars in Embiid and Maxey, pretty pathetic.

I don't understand the complaint about Tobias. Sure, he has zero points, but if you watch the game, he never had an open shot. That set where we usually get him the ball around the basket didn't work in today’s game.

And I wouldn't want him taking shots when he can pass it to the open Buddy Hield. Like Nurse said, the game is designed to be a tight battle down the stretch; none of it matters. Even if Tobias drops 50, it's going to be a close game, and it's going to come down to a battle of Brunson making shots and Embiid or Maxey making shots.

The big difference is that Brunson is making and-1s, while our guys are fishing for fouls. The refs reward you with their whistle if you try to make the shot, similar to how Embiid did in Game 5. Another thing is that Brunson was able to generate good shots and make them, with those back-to-back 3s, which our guys couldn’t do. It all boils down to that.

Maxey blew a great career defining opportunity by not taking over last night’s game. Really a shame.

I'm not going to blame it on the players or the coach. It was a rough year.
But glad that Tobias Harris era in Philly has ended.

Rant over.
Thanks for the great series. Maxey is the truth Diamonds sharpen diamonds.

Knicks were also missing a 3 time All-star and a sharpshooter of the bench.

It doesn't take away from what he did in game 5....as a Knickfan I will say that that performance was one for the history books.

Look how significant Knicks starting 5 contributed to this win. All around games from all of knicks 1-5.
There 3-8 completely outplayed ours throughout the whole series.

We’re not living in 1 billion alternate realities. We’re living in this one where Josh hart torched the nets and shot higher than 50% the entire series from 3. Don’t forget McBride also hit that shot in game 5 that put them up 6.
One of the most important reasons you lost is BECAUSE embiid is on one leg. He often is injured and your team should build around Maxey, not embiid.

Mostly focused my posts on the Sixers this series (obviously) but want to tip my hat to Thibs and the Knicks. Their zone defense was one of the most impressive in recent memory I've seen in the NBA. Obviously we saw a killer zone by Miami during the play-in game, but this was even better IMO. We roasted Embiid and Maxey for their dumb turnovers high/beyond the arc, but gotta credit NY's tenacious guys always anticipating and being where they need to be and then also rotating so efficiently.

I hate zone and think it kills the college game where there are less athletic players who can beat it (I also hate it in my men's league because it's used bc we are all 30+/lazy and encourages bad three point shooting) but in the NBA it's truly a great chess match to watch.

So they're actually not better than the Knicks then.

Beverley and Morris were needed this series, Beverley for his defense on Brunson and Morris for his toughness inside. When they were traded the "Philly" disappeared from the team, and that's exactly what was needed against the Knicks. Consequently the Knicks were far more "Philly" than the Sixers.

His defense down the stretch was absolutely awful, he was already checked out.

He came, in his first play back, missed a rotation, left OG open by like 3 steps, and didn't even try to close out. The only reason to play him was rebounds and even that he couldn't do
