Sixers Record Is Fool's Gold

Post#1 » by The Guilty Party » Sun Jan 6, 2008 5:52 pm

Even though the team is 14-19 which isn't all that great, the Sixers' record is better than what most of us had expected/hoped. With that said, Marc Narducci wrote a column for today going over the fact that only TWO of the Sixers 14 wins have come against teams with a record over .500 (Portland and Washington).

I seem to recall there being a discussion on this board toward the beginning of December when the team was getting blown out on a nightly basis that it was possible for this team to finish December with a solid record because of how easy their schedule was and that some of us feared Stefanski buying in that this team was better than what it actually was. Now that we are in January, I believe that we will see how good or bad this team really is since 7 of their next 10 games are against teams with records of .500 or better.

@ DEN
Vs. MIL
@ TOR
Vs. CHI
@ SAS
@ HOU
@ BOS
Vs. TOR
Vs. IND
Vs. DET

How many wins do see in the next 10? I see maybe 2 but even that is a stretch since both Chicago and Milwaukee will be looking for payback against us for wins on their homefloors earlier in the season.

Since there are 20 teams with a record of 1 game over .500 to under .500, you pretty much summed up the whole NBA. Could be the reason that the Sixers are only 3 games out of the 4 seed.

And by 20 of course... you mean 7, right? :-) Either way, it's a solid point that the league is full of mediocre, inconsistent teams. This really is the year of the "Haves" (Celtics, Pistons, Spurs, Suns) and the "Have Nots" (half of the league).

Wait... are we talking about a combined 20 teams that either are 1 win over .500, at .500, or 1 loss under .500??? If we are, again... I count 7.

He means everyone at one game over .500 or worse. And I only count 19.

He's just presenting the facts in a way that suits his argument.

There are 18 teams with a record of one game under .500 or better.

There are 14 teams over .500 and 13 teams under .500

There are 10 teams on pace to win 50 games and 9 teams on pace to lose 50 games.

See what I did there? The league is no different than it normally is. There are a handful of really good teams, handful of really bad teams, and a bunch of teams in the middle.

Obviously he was saying there are 20 teams that are 1 game over .500 or worse in the league. Just understand the context to what he was saying in the post. Why would he only be talking about teams that are "around" .500 to illustrate how poor the entire league is in general? I really didn't think it was that hard to comprehend.

There were games today that affected the total. Obviously when the post was made the # was 20.

I don't know why I read his post as bad as I did... but I did.

Anyone willing to say the Sixers win more than 3 games in the next 10??

I just don't think Philly will get much better than a #9 or #10 pick. Looking around the teams that seem to be horrible are: NYK, Miami, Charlotte, Milwaukee, Minnesota, Memphis, Seattle & perhaps the LAC. I expect Memphis and Seattle to improve as the season progresses. Still, Philly will probably finish ahead of them.
