Come on man. You know the playoffs is a different atmosphere. You need to develop a hunger to succeed in the playoffs. That doesn't happen if you go there two years in a row and then take a step back. That's a recipe for failure.

That's not recipe for failure. You don't need to dip your toes into the playoffs to succeed. Talent wins.

But just assume that it is recipe for failure. Then how do you expect the Sixers to get to a level that they can win a championship? How are they going to get to that level? The only thing I can see is if they get incredibly lucky and a superstar talent falls into the teens, like Kobe did. But that is even harder now with players having to go to college. Teams have more tape now than ever and teams don't let superstar potential fall.

I saw it. At least it gives some hope that maybe they'd take Dalembert and Green for T-Mac's expiring contract. But I have a feeling the Rockets would sign Blount before they took on Dalembert.

Tom- with what you know about NBA injuries- what do you think the chances are that Brand returns to his old or close to his old self this year? Did you think his struggles last year had more to do with him recovering from the injury or not having any good jump shooters to compliment him in the lineup?

Hard to say. The Sixers want to believe that the extra time away last year will help his Achilles become 100 percent and allow him to become more of the player he was four years ago. His athleticism seemed to be lacking last season -- was it because of the Achilles or just wear and tear? Hope it's the former, but I'm afraid it might be the latter.

Elton Brand=2005 Chris Webber. I hope I'm wrong.

Elton Brand was NEVER an athletic player. Not in his days at Duke. Nor his days here. Elton Brand simply outworks you. He's a Thaddeus Young-type of star that knows what spots to get, what shots to take. He's simply a guy who executes.

He's not what people thinks he is: An athletic freak. Yes, he was an isolation big man who could take it to the rim. He still did do that. When he could that is. Spacing is crucial and Iguodala needs to either develop a killer 3 or a killer drive to make them GTFO out of Brand's way.

This is from Brand's Healthy 06 season when they made the Western Semi's. That year, you had Sam Casssell, Corey Maggette and a healthy Livingston.

Who the hell did we have to either drive it or shoot it? NO ONE.

That's the difference between those Clips and these Sixers. Untill the 2nd half of the season(Iggy) no one on this team could or would SHOOT.

Disagree on all counts.

He wasn't Andre Iguodala, but he certainly could move, run, and jump way better than he did last year. Last season was not how Elton Brand of old was athletically.

See 06 video. Brand was never an athletic freak.

See my post above. I never said he was. But he was a lot more spry than he was last year for the Sixers.

Believe me when I say it: He was never an athlete that'd run your tracks and be fast. He was an athlete that'd create space and hit high percentage shots.

All I'm saying is he's more athletic than what he showed last year. He's not Amare Stoudemire, that's for sure.

Good, I think a winning season cures all ails.

Any Miller updates. S/T updates, is Miller thinking a little more reasonable? Or does he still think Memphis of all teams will pay him?

From what I heard, Stefanski doesn't sound too optimistic about re-signing Miller. As I said, be ready for Williams, Holiday and a veteran -- likely a minimum-salary guy -- to share the job, with Iguodala also handling the ball some.

Heard the same. Why would Rockets trade McGrady's expiring contract for Dalembert and Green? Doesn't make sense.

I am probably overly optimistic but I think Holliday develops faster than people expect. Watching some clips of him, he just seems interesting.

As per the Sixers not talking to Parker, I'm under the impression they don't think he does things other than shoot well enough to make him worthwhile with the MLE. Maybe Stefanski wants to wait and see if he can somehow unload Dalembert before using the MLE.

It's certainly possible, but I wouldn't want to rely on a 19-year-old kid at the point for 30-35 minutes a night immediately. Would need to share the job first, then see how he reacts.
