I REALLY wish we swung that deal with Boston. How sexy would Al Jefferson look in a Sixers Uniform right now?

C-Al Jefferson
PF-Elton Brand
SF-Thaddeus Young
SG-Andre Iguodala
PG-Lou Williams.

If we made that AI deal then their would be no Brand (the cap space would have gone to an Al Jeff extension.)

Simple:

Ed Stefanski: Al, your a great player and we're gonna get to you. But we have a chance at a championship if you take a 1-year extension and allow us to sign Elton Brand to pair with you down low :D.

Al>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SAM.

I'm dreaming but still.

Yeah, Thad must have grown since he was 2.5 inches shorter than Brand before the draft and the same height as Iguodala

Without shoes Brand measured 6'8.25" without shoes, compared to Iguodala's 6'5.75'. The NBA officially lists players with their height in shoes (i.e. Dwight Howard Measured 6'9" without shoes). He's not as undersized as people claim.

I know, I always defend him when people say he's undersized for a PF. Howard grew at least an inch though. Brand is about average height for a PF and his reach allows him to play some center. But that picture next to Iguodala makes him seem a bit shorter. Maybe it's just the angle. But the NBA is all over the place with their listings. There's no consistency.

I believe Thad was referred to as being about 6'8" during last season by various reporters. Sometimes standing next to Iguodala in pics he has looked an inch or so taller. In that recent video with Brand, Thad is slightly shorter, and is still of slighter build. Both Thad and Brand look more bulked up than last year.

Looking at those two pictures of Brand (new unis with Thad and media day 2008 with Iggy), it seems that Stephanski wasn't just being upbeat. Brand's arms and shoulders are much bigger. Brand was always a bit undersized and got by more on skills and smarts than height and upper body strength. Add real muscle to him, and it can only mean good things for the Sixers. I have a feeling his game and Smith's are going to be very compatible.

This is a photo from media day last year. It looks like Brand has an inch on iguodala, about the same as Thad. Though, I realize this photo isn't as ideal as the side to side picture of Brand and Thad.

You are right that it is hard to tel given what perspective, posture etc can do when you are talking a matter of a few inches. I mean look at what perspective does on this shot:

Just for interest, here are a few other pics:

It seems to me Jason Smith's also bulked up in that video. Looks like he's heavier than 2 years ago. Hopefully his knee and surrounding muscles are also stronger. He's running around and jumping pretty well, so it looks positive.

BTW, this is the vid from the jersey intro. Brief interviews with Thad and Brand. I used to think Iguodala had guns, but Thad puts him to shame. Good to see guys putting in the time in the gym.

I like how Jordan says that Iguodala, Thad, and Brand all seem to come up in just about every lineup they think of.

I'm getting really fired up for the season. W/L might not be that great, but want to see some basketball and see how these guys respond. In a way this is the first year since the AI trade that the training wheels have been taken off. No more vet PG to keep them afloat. Its sink or swim time... well that's about all the trite analogies I can come up with, but real excited for the season.

Watching EJ's press conference from the other day got me a little amped up. There's so many questions about this team, but all I've been hearing about is how hard everyone is working. More so than any off season I can recall in recent history.

The sunny side of Miller, Evans, and Ratliff leaving is that a lot of minutes and field goal attempts will be up for grabs. We have a lot of youth on this team and not as many veteran stop gap players to take playing time away from them, so we should be able to get some clear answers on all of their current questions heading into the season.

Im really confident in Lou Williams, I'm confident in the talent on this ball club. 45 Wins-37 Losses.

And it could be more.

Great to read some positive blogging about the sixers. I am extremely excited about this year and the POTENTIAL. I stated before, there are alot of questions but this could be the beginning of a great year and could be a long playoff run (could be, not likely).

The "keys of the year" to me are Lou, Sam and Elton. If they all do well, great year, 2 do well, good year, 1 or none do well, fair to poor year.

I think we can expect Brand to be playing well, if there are no more injury/healing issues. Lou's a question mark, and I expect him to be slightly better in offensive statistics (higher pt avg, lower pct., higher assists) if he gets major minutes at pg, but I don't know that I expect a different mentality. I don't think we can expect anything new from Sam at this point. He is what he is. The team's hopes depend upon 3 players, and Brand is one. Lou and Sam are not. If the shooters shoot well, we may be pretty competitive.

I know. I am concerned with the ball being in his hands. He did say at some point that he saw himself like an AI type of player. I'm just basing that on what we saw of him last year. I know he's been working on his shot, so I'm hoping I'm wrong. But if a volume shooter is the pg, I wouldn't be surprised to see his point avg go up and his pct go south!.
