For the first month or so we'll probably see all 13 players playing, not all in every game, but some decent minutes here and there for everyone. Until they figure out the rotation.

Some of it will be situational. But I'll bet Holiday averages the most minutes among the backup guards this season (not counting Kapono, who I consider more of a three).

Only 9-10 guys will play a night, which also means a big (Brezec?) won't be in the regular rotation.

Stefanski on Holiday: "We’re high on the rookie, but he’s a rookie. Will he be able to get some playing time this season? He’ll have to earn the minutes. He’s done everything we’ve asked of him all summer and so far in the fall.'

Almost the whole team is here -- no Dalembert (supposedly coming in Monday) or Brezec (playing in European Championships).

Does Ed seem committed to a big starting lineup? Any chance of Brand starting at center?

I'd say it's unlikely at this point. It'll probably be Williams, Iguodala, Young, Brand and Dalembert. Brand will play some 5, especially when the Sixers want to run.

Stefanski: "Andre Iguodala, Elton and Thad – those three guys are very good basketball players. That’s a very good core to have. They’re as good as any core you can get out there."

More Stefanski: "Eddie (Jordan) wants to push the ball – we want to try to lead the league in fast-break points. With the depth we have, that could help."

Yes, ticket sales are off and fans aren't as interested as they were a year ago following the signing of Brand.

I used to eat at Hymie's and Murray's all of the time- but not sure if that is where you are referring (a few blocks off of City Line.) If it was one of them I complement you for good taste, and will leave out any snide remarks about weight. ES is no AR.

I asked who would be taking over Williams' role as the scorer off the bench. The first name he mentioned was Speights. "Speights is only going to be in his second year, but he came out and brought a spark to the team at the offensive end (as a rookie). The kid scores."

It was a new place called Katz's Deli that's in the B101 building on City Ave across the street from PCOM.

Stefanski on Willie Green as a potential bench scorer: "If Willie Green doesn’t start, we know he can score in bunches. He’s done that before – scored a lot at the beginning of the game."

Stefanski on declining ticket sales: "We’re off – not out of lack of effort. The economy did hurt us. It’s hurt everybody in the league and the commissioner said so (Stern said to brace for a 10 percent attendance reduction, league-wide). I think once the season starts, hopefully we’ll win some ballgames. I think the fans definitely want to come back. It’s just not being able to commit the money early."

Oh god, the thought of going into another season with Willie as a starter isn't going to help me sleep at night.

Tom do you know the reason why Sammy is not with the team yet?

I'm not sure. I just know that Ed Stefanski said he's expected to be in town Monday. Elton Brand was at Tuesday's informal scrimmage, though he didn't participate. Kapono, Green, Williams, Jason Smith and others have been regulars there.

Am told the most the Sixers could get for Dalembert was Radmanovic and Mohammed from the Bobcats, which wasn't enough.

Carney: "When I was drafted, I had to prove myself. My second year here, I had to prove myself. In Minnesota, I had to prove myself. Here, it's the same thing. That's what I'm going to have to do to stay in this league. I'll go out and continue to play hard and play defense to get playing time. It's what I'm always thinking. I have to prove myself all over again - that's how it is."

Elton Brand CAN'T play center. Remember last year? Only way it could work is if you get a strong PF under-neath the basket to compensate for lack of size. In other words, pair Brand with a Jason Smith or a Speights.

Jason Smith looks like he's healthy again after missing 2008-09 due to a torn ACL.

I mentioned that in another thread regarding how he looked in the clip on Sixers.com. He looks like he's returning to form from a physical standpoint. Him replacing Evan's role off the bench should be a positive. Smith's skill set better compliments the players on this team, and I think we'll see much better production from Smith with those big man minutes off the bench.

The only thing I'd say is that players often take a full season back after a torn ACL to become the players they were before the injury -- some of it is physical, some mental. I think Smith will play this year, but I don't know if he'll be as effective as he would've been if he had been healthy last year.

Well, sure. Having just missed a full season he'll have to regain a comfort level in actual games, and there is probably still room to improve physically. I'm not anticipating a breakout year or anything of the sort, but I could see him in the neighborhood of 7.5ppg, 4.5rpg in limited minutes while shooting a decent percentage, which is still a solid contribution.
