Now, many have disagreed with me on a number of issues but this is one we'll all agree on: If Rodney Carney had handles.........MAN. What'd a sick player he'd be. He has some explosive hops and he's quick as well. And he's a good 3pt shooter. Handles would turn him from a role-player, to a starter.

It's not that he plays too fast, it's just he doesn't have handles and that's the fundamental thing expected of a 2 guard.

There's still hope, he was drafted 3 years ago(the same time as Kevin Kolb). He can still develop those handles. It's not like he's old or anything.

forgot about holiday, over the course of the season he will likely take mins from ivey and green as they should ease him into that role plus they are gonna try to get wins early because people wants to save their jobs. Not that we have a deep bench because we dont but the people on our bench are close to each other talent wise that it will be interesting to see who doesnt dress for games.

Questionable. He's capable of being that, but he has to cut down on 3s early in the clock.

I'm going to have to somewhat disagree here. I agree that Carney doesn't possess a good handle. However, I also think Carney has always played the game too fast and does not allow it to come to him. If Carney were to spend an entire off-season on improving his handle, I would be hopeful that good coaching could help him with his patience and understanding of the game. Right now though, the fact that he plays too fast only exacerbates his poor handle.

Sadly, that's why a talented athlete like this can be had for the league minimum.

True. He tries to do too much. Just learning some patience on the offensive end would really help his game.

Do you think coming to a team where he's familar with the guys and a spark off the bench would help him in those areas?

Regarding Carney's game, I worry that he is the wrong fit for the Princeton. I think he could thrive off the ball in a role similar to Ariza on the Lakers last year. But he is the wrong guy to ask to make decisions in a 2 or 3 man game. I remember him not only as a subpar ball handler and playing "too fast", but also as a guy with a one tract mind. He decides what he wants to do (drive or shoot) but can't read and react based on the defense.

Maybe he has improved or maybe they can use him on the weakside and not ask him to do so much. I do like what he can bring as an energy, role player. I just worry if he is a square peg when it comes to the Princeton Offense.

of course, for just the minimum its a good signing either way.

I agree that he's not the best guy when it comes to making decisions with the ball, and that part of the princeton doesn't suit him at all, but on the other side of things I think he could also benefit from a motion offense like this. He's good at cutting to the basket and he if we swing the ball around the perimeter he could get left open quite a bit from outside. I could see guys finding him for some high percentage looks... I just don't see him creating offense for himself or others. It'll be interesting to see how he fits in. It's another contract year for Rodney.

Could be. Didn't see much of him during his season in Minnesota, so I'm not sure how different he is now than 15 months ago. It's no lock he'll be in the regular rotation, but he has a shot for at least some spot minutes.

I don't even see 8 minutes a game for Rod.

That's certainly possible.

I am REALLY hoping to see a whole lot of DNP CD's next to Ivey's name this year.

Take out Carney and replace that with Kapono.

I think he was just referring to PG and SG. Make it all 3 positions and add in Kapono, and it's about 45 minutes between those 5 backups.

Yes, was specifically referring to guard minutes. Would think Kapono is mainly a "3."
