Quit a figure, on and off the footballfield.
Enjoyed himself and made a lot of people enjoy football.

He was before my time. Didn't really start watching competitive Football until the mid 00's. 60 is way too young.

Just got the news. His problems were well documented but this is still a sad day for the beautiful game.

LEGEND

Maybe it is because he played ahead of my time but I always considered him to be quite overrated.
People always refered to Pele and him as the goats but in reality his prime was shortened by a lot of team changes, injuries, drug- and other off-pitch issues.

Nevertheless, 60 is far too early to die for a legend, RIP.

I agree for sure. The 86 World Cup was an incredible performance, but it also blew his rep out of proportion. Otherwise, I was shocked to see how few top flight matches he played during his career. I could be mistaken but the last time I checked I'm not sure if he cracked 200 in Europe. He was pretty much washed up by the time he hit 30, too. So despite being one of the all-time greats, I have a tough time putting him on par with Pele, Messi, Ronaldo, etc. One great tournament shouldn't surpass years of superior production and durability.

The career path is quite comparable to Ronaldinho, IMO, who is not on GOAT level either.

without this handball goal from an offside position he wouldn't even have had the 86 world cup success. A skilful player but very overrated who then went on to waste his life. If anything he reminds me of George Best who I'd say was a better player.

Can we stop with posts saying his career was overrated when it is a thread to mourn a great player, a great man who died relatively young, too early...

He was more talented than 99% of fotball players in history. Lets celebrate his career, life, mourn him instead.
