seems like it would be tough to come into a game when its this cold. sitting on the bench you're not warm at all. honduras had a few subs at half which is probably a good time because everyone got warm in the locker room

Did they sell out the game?

I'm guessing the choice of the venue has to do with trying to maximize revenues?

Or maybe they just rotate it around to different cities and they chose Minnesota in the winter?

Or maybe using the weather conditions to ensure victory. :D :D

Not sure why American players would have more advantage than Honduran players in the cold.

US is colder than Honduras but their best players are used to playing in non tropical weather?

That's what people think about certain teams in the NFL who play in the colder cities. But there is really no advantage. The problems with cold weather affect all players equally.

You'd expect the USMNT to beat Honduras down in Honduras.

Given the absolute raft of sht we have to deal with in these countries — being pelted with piss bags, coins and batteries; intentionally crappy field conditions; fire alarms at the team hotel; fireworks and salsa music blaring outside all night; BS going through customs; etc etc etc — I couldn’t possibly give less of a crap that we did this.

Hell, even if it didn’t have any impact on the outcome — and given that Honduras had only 0.06 xg, it clearly did — I’d have been happy we did it just out of pure spite.

i think they did sell out, or close

part of the official reason it was in minnesota was to minimize travel this stretch (games in ohio, canada, minnesota) and maintain a consistent climate for the players (obviously cold in all of those places this time of year). they got bad luck that we dipped into a super cold stretch for a few days here, if this game was last weekend it would have been just as warm as the other two

from berhalter:
“When we go down to those countries and it’s 90 degrees and 90% dew point and it’s unbearable humidity and guys are getting dehydrated and cramping up and getting heat exhaustion, that’s the nature of our competition,”

i think greg and sedale are right, we put up with a lot of crap in some of these other countries, so i'm fine with this

If they scheduled in southern CA, even AZ or FL, the temperatures are pretty moderate this time of the year.

Maybe MN has a lot of supporters.

Read this. Some of the stuff we've had to put up with down there over the years is downright appalling. Sample: Landon Donovan once had a cup of vomit -- VOMIT -- thrown at him in Mexico. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. It's subhuman behavior.

Making them play in really cold weather for two hours pales in comparison. Frankly, knowing that a couple of Honduras' players had to be substituted for hypothermia was icing on the cake. I wish we could do this to all of them.

Honduras has an 0-8-3 record in the CONCACAF qualifiers.

They have a population under 9.5 million.

Their Goal Differential is -17.

USMNT should have no problems beating them anywhere they played.

But they want to punch down on the weakest team in the region?

Whoopedy doo. This isn't a garden party. We had a horrendously embarrassing failure in the last WC qualifiers, and even now it's going to go down to the wire. If you're not using every single edge to your advantage, what are you doing?

I think I might start crying for the US football team players and their difficult lives.

As opposed to the Honduran national team, which was subjected to an apparent human rights violation by being forced to play in very cold weather for 2 hours. The horror! Maybe the United Nations will open an investigation.
