Spain and Italy IMO have the deepest midfields in the tournament.

Spain with Silva, Xavi, Alonso, Fabregas, Senna, De La Red, Iniesta.
Italy with Pirlo, De Rossi, Gattuso, Camoranesi, Aquilani, Perrotta, Ambrosini - who all play for one of Italy's big 4.

Spain's is better though, but with Pirlo and Gattuso suspended hopefully Aquilani will be able to show his worth

Spain just got fouled twice inside the box within a minute and nothing was called. These officials have called numerous ticky tack fouls in the first 20 minutes and yet they allow the Italians TWO take downs inside the box. Pathetic.

A third foul barely outside of the box that isn't called. This is AWFUL.

First half recap: Spain is dominating TOP and outplaying Italy but half the time they are around the penalty box the Italians turn into the Detroit Pistons and get away with obvious fouls. Spain should have gotten 2 penalty kicks and 2 free kicks just outside the box IMO.

I dont see that clear dominance.
Spain is keeping the ball with short passing and good order but losing speed.
Italy is pressing in the midfield searchig for a mistake or a foul near the box (poormans football)

WOW! What a save!! Italy had a great chance to score but the goalie recovered on time.

Great game, the color commentator on ESPN is rooting for Spain though. He repeatedly comments on fouls that should be called on Italy. Let it go and comment on a great game.

The spanish plan has failed during this 90 minutes.

Its like watching a 0-0 baseball game in the 9th, sure everyone likes scoring but you cant beat a nail biter to the end. Great game!
