Steve Jobs is stellar. Michael Fassbender is winning the Oscar. there is no question. when you see it, you will see - it's one of the best acting performances of all time. maybe 5% better than Denzel in Training Day, if you can believe that.
can't wait for Creed. not at all psyched for Spectre - somebody tell me if it was any good. Burnt is a 70/100; definitely worth the price of admission. is Southpaw that good? wasn't expecting that. the one question mark for me is Black Mass. Depp is frightening as Bulger. he's worth the price of admission all by himself. the rest of the movie really isn't written that well. too many sub-characters, too much skipping, not enough development. it is good, but it's got noticeable holes in it.
crossover note: wasn't LeBron hilarious in Trainwreck? anybody see that?
Ex Machina was awesome. I wasn't terribly high on Steve Jobs, but I had read the book and would have liked to see more, like when and how he got involved with Pixar.
And I don't know that his acting performance is hands down the best of the year. I've seen a bunch of great ones. Paul Dano in Love & Mercy, Jake Gyllenhall in Southpaw (though neither of them will likely get nominated due to the movies being either not wide release/seen by many (Love & Mercy) or not reviewed well (Southpaw). You also still have Tom Hardy (playing twins in Legend and also in The Revenant), and Leo also in The Revenant.
But you may be right...one site projects these in the nominees, in order of their likely chances.
The Predicted Five:
1. Leonardo DiCaprio, "The Revenant"
2. Michael Fassbender, "Steve Jobs"
3. Matt Damon, "The Martian"
4. Eddie Redmayne, "The Danish Girl"
5. Johnny Depp, "Black Mass"
