It is Arizona's turn to sit atop The Associated Press Top 25 men's college basketball poll.

The Wildcats rose to No. 1 in Monday's poll for the first time in nearly nine years, making Tommy Lloyd's squad the third team to hold the top spot this season. Last week's No. 1 team, Purdue, slid after an overtime loss at Northwestern.

Arizona claimed 59 of 63 first-place votes to move up one spot, putting the Wildcats comfortably ahead of preseason No. 1 Kansas. The Jayhawks rose three spots to No. 2 with a win against last season's NCAA champion, UConn.

Spoiler:
AP men's basketball Top 25 poll
First-place votes in parenthesis:

TEAM RECORD
1. Arizona (59) 7-0
2. Kansas (1) 7-1
3. Houston (3) 8-0
4. Purdue 7-1
5. UConn 7-1
6. Baylor 8-0
7. Gonzaga 6-1
8. Marquette 6-2
9. North Carolina 7-1
10. Creighton 7-1
11. Florida Atlantic 7-1
12. Texas 6-1
13. Colorado State 8-0
14. BYU 7-0
15. Miami 6-1
16. Kentucky 6-2
17. Tennessee 4-3
18. James Madison 8-0
19. Oklahoma 7-0
20. Illinois 6-1
21. Texas A&M 6-2
22. Duke 5-3
23. Wisconsin 6-2
24. Clemson 7-0
25. San Diego State 7-1

Arizona hasn't been No. 1 in the AP Top 25 since an eight-week stint that ended in January 2014 under former coach Sean Miller. Lloyd is in his third season after a long run as an assistant at Gonzaga, and his first two teams each spent multiple weeks inside the top five.

"I know when I came to this program, my dream is to make it one of the best in the country," Lloyd said of the possible rise to No. 1 after a weekend win against Colgate. "If you're one of the best in the country, you're going to stumble into being No. 1 once in a while. So you know what? Handle it. And that'll be the message."

Hey, that was my attempt...create a new draft thread! I think he disappeared around the time we traded for KD (which included our 23 pick).

At least AZ is fun to watch. They just cut a 17 pt deficit to 4 in a few minutes. That's very quick in college basketball. And this is against #3 ranked Purdue. It would be really nice to win, but even if they lose, it won't be a bad one...it's on the road too.

We’re bound to lose sometimes can’t stay #1 in nation all season long. Wildcats only hit six 3’s just a couple more could have given us a chance to win. Oh well, onto the next game against Bama.

How do you watch wildcat games? Cause I don’t have PAC-12 network so I haven’t been watching much last 3 years but try catching games on ABC or ESPN. I paid 5 bucks for peacock to watch the game today. This game should have been nationally televised considered who’s playing. Grr

Well many of their games have been on regular networks on Saturdays because they have had great matchups. Luckily I got a Black Friday deal for Peacock at $2 a month for a year. There were some shows I wanted to watch but this was a bonus when I noticed it was on Peacock. I also knew their was a Chargers game on Peacock against Buffalo and at the time was looking forward to that matchup. Now, not so much.

Maybe this time Jones gets it right and drafts the PG of the future. I know it's asking for too much, but he should go for best prospect over most ready 23yo player even with our supposedly title contending aging group.

This is the best Wildcat game I’ve seen in quite a while. The last 10+ minutes was dramatic there might be a double overtime coming up.
