Thaddeus Young told @BurnsAndGambo that he was almost traded to the Phoenix Suns in 2014 when he was with the 76ers then again in 2021 when he says he was almost dealt here for Dario Saric, Langston Galloway and Jaylen Smith.

I think buyout is much different than being cut (say at the beginning of the season).

Something to think about is 1) he was on a losing team that had no chance to make the playoffs and 2) he was behind a bunch of young PFs and Cs the Raptors needed to develop. He wasn't going to get any time with them. A buyout allowed to him a chance to be part of something and the Raptors obliged.

I suppose so. Maybe using "cut" was a misnomer here. The being stuck behind a bunch of young players in need of development doesn't come as much of a surprise. You'd think the Raptors would have been smart to use him to bring them up to speed and lean in on his veteran knowledge base, but I guess they chose otherwise and to our (potential at this point) benefit.

I'm sure he'll fit in well and add some size and shooting for us.
