Maybe Blazers keep both Simons and Herro and start the year as the starting backcourt. Could competition be good for all 4 backcourt players? Could this get the best out of all of them? Will Herro play even better with a chip on his shoulder?

How many points would Simons and Herro allow, vs. Scoot and Sharpe?

The Blazers likely ultimately lost Lillard by disallowing Scoot and Sharpe to be included in trades to upgrade the team. I'm not sure how anybody could think they aren't penciled in as the future. Seems like a pretty clear indication by the FO.

Do we know Scoot-Sharpe are lock down defenders? What we do know is Ant-Herro can score 20ppg each. Steph isn’t a good defender but he sure is a great scorer.

Statistically speaking, Anferno is the worst defender in the league. Maybe Herro isn't that bad but on our team he probably would be. I'd much rather start the kids that might have the ability to be good defenders in the future than start two guys that you're pretty sure are going to be horrible.

Simons had a 119 defensive rating last year, Dame had a 120, Herro had a 111 score. Only matters if you believe that stuff. Simons was paired against sg much of the time. Dame walks on water and Simons is a complete worthless stiff.

No need for the hyperbole...
Dame is a horrible defender, always has been. Gives little effort, and you have to build your defensive scheme to hide him.
That's really hard to do when you have another horrible defender like Ant.

Neither of Ant or Hero for starter at SG. Sharpe should start and Ant should be the 6th man.
And as 6th man, I prefer Ant over Hero.

I think it’s worth a shot to see what Ant and Herro can do with 30+ minutes a game and build trade value. Could they both produce 45-50ppg in the backcourt? Could you start them with Thybulle and Grant to help them hide defensive woes? Could Billips get them to play better D?

I'd rather have Ant at SG for he's paid $6-7 Milion/year less and can fill in at PG in an emergency.

Herro in Miami has the advantages of better coaching and plus defenders in Bam/Jimmy

The payroll difference is ~$3M/yr, not $6-7

Let's be fair about this for Ant has $76/3 left on his deal while Herro has the entirety of $120/4 extension he signed as a Heat.

I still think Ant has more upside than Herro, and if Dame would just go away we might see that. :D

It’s a luxury to lose Dame and still have Ant-Herro-Scoot-Sharpe in the backcourt

It’s a luxury to have a rebuild that includes Scoot, Sharpe, and Ant … with veterans Grant, Thybulle, and Nurkic … with younger players including Little, Murray, Walker, and Rupert.

What Portland needs is NOT Herro or other guards. The luxury is having Lillard and the necessity of trading him returning front court players. Front court players who are more than just a hope that they can be quality starters years from now — Jovic, Jaquez.

When people speak of how keeping Lillard into the season will hurt the growth of the young guys because he will suck up minutes, the same is true of Herro — but comparatively worse for the team and returning less when he, too, is traded … because teams will know to offer a craptastic trade.

I voted Herro as I think he is the slightly better player (due to defense), but Simon’s’ contract is slightly more friendly as a 6th man role behind Sharpe.
