Why is this franchise so bloody stupid with giving out free agent deals. They big against themselves.
Pathetic.
Pathetic.

There is absolutely no reason to make Grant's services more expensive at all.
Dray 25per, Grant 32per. Common now, this ain't our first rodeo.
It matters a little bit that Green is 33 and Grant is 29

They're in this Olshey mindset still that if you don't overpay players to the extreme, they'll leave. And maybe they will... but so what?
If you're a team that needs to overpay for FA's, do what Indy just did with Brown. 22mil for Brown is a ludicrous number, but only 2 season is fine.

I said the same thing. Anyone expecting Grant for anything under 30mil was in dreamland.

Agreed. You can't build a contender overpaying everyone. Therefore try and call their bluff, or let them walk if they're being outright greedy.DusterBuster wrote:Dame Lizard wrote:Why is this franchise so bloody stupid with giving out free agent deals. They big against themselves.

He's in his prime, a wing with size, length, shoots 40% from 3, plays defense, and scores 20 ppg. There's only a handful of those in the NBA, they can be plugged into any roster, and they get paid.
It's not rocket science.
If he rebounded better or passed like Lebron he'd be a max player.

Sure, I don't mean to make it sounds like Grant is a bad player. But he's now officially overpaid and probably impossible to move for 3 years.

This is why we honestly should have traded Dame to a contender and rebuilt.

5 and $150 million was predicted and expected.
Dame staying or going?
Grant signs for 5 and $160 million.
A big bag for Jerami.
The sky is not falling.
He’s a good player with a tradable contract.
Not ideal, not horrible.

Who were we in competition with for Grant's services?
Seriously, I doubt anybody else who has money gives him more than 25 mil a year.
Why pay him more than 7 mil extra a year?

Everyone wants to live at the expense of the state. They forget that the state lives at the expense of everyone

Re: What kind of contract are you expecting Jerami Grant to get?
As soon as the new CBA kicks in, Grant will be almost completely untradeable unless it's for a mutually better fitting, but equally untradeable contract.
I'm not particularly high on Grant, but agree that he is valuable with the right kind of players surrounding him. It just bothers me that he's never proven he can contribute to a winning team. I get hardcore "fake" stats vibes from him.
EDIT: I misread what the contract is as 3 years not 5
Giving Grant 5 years is the dumbest move yet on Cronin's watch. This puts any chance of a solid rebuild off by 3-4 years. Absolutely idiotic. It would have been much smarter to simply let him walk and deal with the fallout from Lillard then wanting to leave.

I guarantee we will be attaching assets to move that contract in a few years.
