Dame staying or going?
Grant signs for 5 and $160 million.
A big bag for Jerami.
The sky is not falling.
He’s a good player with a tradable contract.
Not ideal, not horrible.

The sky isn't falling, but that's a weight we are going to be dragging around for half a decade.
It already has negative trade value, meaning we'll have to pay assets just to get rid of it.

It flat out tells other teams we are not going to trade Dame this summer. But given this team's quality, as we plod along next season, Dame will be asking to be traded by the trade deadline in February.
And we'll still be paying for Jerami when Dame's a distant memory.

I think it qualifies as horrible.

Jerami Grant and Evan Turner are probably laughing and high-fiveing each other as we speak…

Hopefully they don't do something even dumber like signing Dame to an insane extension tanking his trade value and handcuffing us financially for years.

Pathetic.

They're in this Olshey mindset still that if you don't overpay players to the extreme, they'll leave. And maybe they will... but so what?

If you're a team that needs to overpay for FA's, do what Indy just did with Brown. 22mil for Brown is a ludicrous number, but only 2 season is fine.
Agreed. You can't build a contender overpaying everyone. Therefore try and call their bluff, or let them walk if they're being outright greedy.

The thing is that since PA's death Portland only promotes the illusion of caring about winning. They're biding their time on the treadmill while his estate winds down for a sale. They can point and say "look! we care! we give big contracts!". They don't care, at_all. People are saying how stupid the Blazers are for all these awful deals, they aren't stupid, this is calculated. String the fanbase along, false hope, cash out.

Jerami Grant tuned down the 4 yr $112 million extension.
Predictions ran from that $28 million but 5 years to $32 million.
It was said that he did not sign during last season — in part — so that he wouldn’t be traded somewhere he didn’t want to go.
Mission friggin’ accomplished by Jerami Grant AND the absolute signing Portland HAD to do to keep Dame.

It’s not a team-friendly contract, but it is no anchor at this point. Seeing how he plays next season and beyond will make the difference in that judgment. Now, they need to both build the bench and MAKE THE TRADE likely involving Ant.

Is that even going to matter to Dame? We had Grant last year. How does this signing improve us?

At least Dame will have his buddy to joke with in street cloths during the last 12 games of 2024

5 years $160 mil seems a little high. We shall see what else happens.

I know he made the All-Star team whereas Grant did not, but considering Fred Vanvleet just got 3yrs/$130... Grant's 5yrs/$160 doesn't look bad to me at all, because we just locked up our SF long-term.

More moves to come I hope. We deserately need to strengthen our PF/C rotation.

When looking at the other ridiculous contracts offered this year for guys like Kyrie, FVV, and Bane. I don't think the Grant contract is that bad, is it a good contract no but it's at worst a slight overpay especially when looking at these other ridiculous offers.

I think the worst thing about it is the 5 years unless that 5th year is a team option.

It's funny seeing RealGM claim nearly every contract is bad when that can't be the case. If we are in a world where every contract nearly is considered bad then that is just a normal contract. It's like if a car cost 25% more than they do right now that would just be the price of a car in 2023.

Yeah there's surprisingly bad money being shelled out. That fifth year is huge here hopefully it's an option

With this news of Dame wanted out, the contract is looking crappier as each minute passes.

Just wait until Toronto resigns... ah never mind, those players just leave for nothing.

Has Grant signed the contract yet? Can it "accidentally" fall into the shredder?

Blazers can flip Jerami for assets all day, if we haven’t already planned where to send him to.

He was the best free agent available, I said it and will continue to say it. Contenders will pay us for him.

This of course is a bad deal but not a Nurk-level liability as long as Jerami keeps staying healthy. Let's hope he manages to achieve that.

Oh I'm sorry I've missed the latest news
With Dame going out locking Jerami on 5-YEAR-DEAL is a very debatable move. There is no guarantee he will be a positive trade asset at all.
