Jerami Grant sign and trade possibilities

Post#1 » by Blazinaway » Wed Jun 28, 2023 5:03 pm

IF Lillard is traded then what might Jeram Grant bring in a sign and trade deal? What teams might be interested?

Honestly, if Miami isnt the team that gets Dame - they are probably the best option - an expiring Lowry, Jovic and a pick.

Another option could be Dallas, but the ballast (THJ) has an extra year on his deal.

As for cap space teams - your probably just getting a TPE and a SRP.

Dame and Nurkic to BRK for Simmons, Claxton, Harris, 4 UNP FRP + the above MIA deal would be a nice 'supernova' teardown option.

What about trading Grant to the Rockets for young players/picks?
Sometimes they live by the jumper, and some times they die by the jumper.

Why would the Rockets give up assets when they have cap space to sign him outright?

So they can use their cap space on other players.

Bigger question is why Grant would want a S&T to the Rockets to play with... Maybe Fred Van Fleet and Dillon Brooks?

If Houston isn't using cap space to execute the S&T, then they need to send us back salary. They don't have dead weight salary to include. I don't see a useful path with Houston.

If we're doing a S&T in to Rocket's cap space, WE are the ones who would need to send assets (like a 2RP), since they are doing us a favor. That way we get a large trade exception.

RE Grant's motivation to go to Houston - that's easy. He'll go wherever he gets paid the most.

Assuming Lillard is traded

Lonzo & Williams
McGee, Hardaway & Josh Green
Basically any expiring or 2 year contract and decent first round pick
Theis & Jalen Smith
Isaiah Stewart or Wiseman

That is absolutley insane. Guy is under 40% from the field.

Adding him to a roster of high talent guys that have no clue how to play together wont return much in terms of results IMO.

As for S&T - w/ CHI resigning Vuc maybe they are still trying to win games. Would love to take on the dead weight of Ball to get Pat Williams in a S&T for Grant.

Assume we get Claxton in a Dame trade and the below is young and looks like tons of fun -

G - Scoot Henderson (19)
G - Shadeon Sharpe (20)
F - Pat Williams (22)
F - Kris Murray (23)
C - Nic Claxton (23)

Unfortunately for us fans, I think the Blazers would sooner let Grant walk for nothing than take back a massive dead-money contract to land a prospect or pick.

Maybe not considering in the new CBA there’s a salary floor we need to stay at anyway

I would send Lillard and Nurkic to Brooklyn and follow that up with a S&T Grant to Brooklyn. I would want a ton of picks, Clowny, and Whitehead. Maybe Sharpe, as well. That's a really nice roster for Brooklyn. Portland needs to send Simon's somewhere, as well. I might try to include Johnson and/or William's.

Scoot / Johnson
Sharpe / Whitehead / Williams
Little / Whitehead / Rupert
Clowny / Murray / Walker
Sharpe / Watford / Badji

Should get a decent draft pick next year.

teams with cap-space at the trade deadline have a lot of leverage

Letting Grant walk might enrage Dame but would put the team $30 million farther away from
the tax line. I wonder if Grant will get some offers on July 1, for the team might have their
hands tied by Dame's situation

It'll be interesting to see if the team signs Thybulle for a bit more than his QO. I might still
allow him to walk if he wants a contract closer to the MLE. Presumably the team is going to
allow Reddish to walk

Grant would have to be nuts to opt out on the last year of that deal

It's going to be hella annoying watching Jerami chuck away on an awful team the next few seasons. :(

Like he didn't do that on the Pistons team for a few years. At least we've locked a proven specialist in chucking.

What about Dame-Grant for Ingram-Zion.

Grant-Dame health wise is already an upgrade over Zion-Ingram.

Dame-CJ
Jones-Daniels
Murphy
Grant-Nance
JV

Blazers continue the revamp and roll the dice on Zion and Ingram. Try to make a trade for KAT or Ayton. Maybe look to sign Wood and Bol to add size to the frontline. See if you can package Little-Keon for Suggs.

Scoot-Suggs
Sharpe-Thybulle
Ingram-Murray-Rupert
Zion-Bol-Wood
KAT/Ayton
