Do the Blazers lack outside shooting?

Post#1 » by Blazers20 » Sun Oct 1, 2023 6:53 pm

Who makes up for the loss of Dames production? Is Portland going to be lacking at the 3 point line and is this a problem? Does Portlands offense or lack of offense become a problem this year? Should Portland look to establish an inside presence with a Ayton instead and go back to feeding the big in the paint (iso ball)? Ayton shoots 60% from the field and wants that role and should Chauncey make him and Ant the focus of the offense?

They could use an upgrade at 3 and D SF, and PF who can pick and pop
Sometimes they live by the jumper, and some times they die by the jumper.

Portland still has Simons and Grant, who can make shots from the perimeter and Brogdon
is a scorer

If Ant is healthy, I can see him averaging 23-25ppg.

By modern nba standards, yes. These days most teams have 4-5 starters that are decent 3pt shooters. We have 3 on our whole team Grant, Simons, Sharpe, and we'll probably only have 2 of those 3 on the court most of the time.

So they need to figure out other ways to win.

I would love it if Ayton is the main focal point of the offense. If our primary play is a Scoot to Ayton pick and roll, we should have decent spacing with Jeremy, Anferno and Thybulle.

First, I think you can never make up for a shooter like Dame. But for the last 11 years it seems like outside shooting has been most of our offense, except when Nurk was healthy and the pick and roll worked. Hasn't Ayton been a very good mid-range shooter and if Grant can score like he did in Detroit and Simmons can continue to average 20 plus per game, maybe we don't have to live and die by the outside jump shot all the time.

Nobody makes up for Dame. We are rebuilding. We just need to let our players develop and see what we have.

Yes we are now a poor 3pt shooting team. This is why I feel that we can't trade Ant. It also could be why we've kept Knox and Butler.
J-Walk could be a plus shooter at backup 4 and Murray has a chance. Shaedon is getting there, Reath might have some ability to pop. Camara is developing as a spot up guy but stinks when contested.

I like Ayton as a presence in the paint but the problem he may not have outside shooters to kicked it out too? What outside shooters are available and are in the same timeline?

I have no faith in anyone’s outside shot other than Ant and he may not be all that efficient. Murray has a chance but he maybe the only one outside of Ant.

Idk. I trust Sharpe's shooting as well.
