More than anything I'm just surprised that this came after we heard he'd signed with Toronto but doesn't shock me the la dodgers spent an unconscious amount

Imagine what if an NBA player could sign a contract for $700 million.

Let's say Lebron was an UFA at 28 years old. If it were allowed, I could see a number of teams
offering him a 10 year contract worth $700 million with some deferred money for that
contract has opened the eyes for athletes in all sports

Wild for a sport that's been in decline for a while and that's likely got going to change, only thing baseball is good for is napping!

I still enjoy a good baseball game for I travel each year to Seattle to see the Yankees play.

Now factory in national and local media. $70 million per year is a lot of money but it's only a fraction of what the Dodgers bring in in revenue.

Indeed but that doesn't mean spending 10 percent of it on one player even a really good one is the best use of that money. It feels as if the dodgers sort of bid against themselves here, otani was gonna sign for 400 million supposedly then he gets almost double offered not one day later. That 700 million is seemingly a huge overpay for a guy coming off a major injury. They'll get maybe 3 years of pitching out of him before he's only good as a dh

Yeah usually those contracts don't work out so well.. Generally when baseball teams hand out that sort of money they get 2-3 good years at best, maybe a few years of being still useful after that period and then 5 years of being pure dead weight. That front end of the contract better be worth the dead weight at the end of the deal because it's gonna hurt

Remember that MLB has no real salary cap so it won't affect them much on the field if at all as long as the money is coming in which it being an LA team it probably will. In the meantime they have now added one of the top pitchers in the game increasing their odds of postseason success.
