Blazers Strength: In-Game Resiliency

Post#1 » by BlazerDraft2006 » Tue Jan 8, 2008 5:02 am

The key to the Blazers success is their in-game resiliency. They are outstanding at coming from behind.

The Blazers have a 12-9 record in games they are behind at halftime. Only Boston (5-1) is better. If you subtract the losses from the wins, Boston ranks first at +4, with Portland second at +3.

No one else wins more games than they lose when they are behind at halftime. The next teams are at -2 (Detroit 3-5, Phoenix 5-7, Orlando 6-8) and -3 (Lakers 3-6, Denver 5-8, Dallas 6-9, Golden State 8-11).

Since the streak started, we are 16-1 in all games. Of those 17 games, we were behind at half time 9 times, and we won 8 of these games. Only at Utah, in Brandon's foul trouble game, did the Blazers trail at halftime and lose the game. Eight other times, we were behind at halftime and we won. So we are +7 (8-1) since the streak began in games we are behind at halftime. To play 0.888 ball when you are behind at halftime is phenomenal! Other than Boston, everyone else plays below 0.500 when behind at the half.

The Blazer's winning percentage in games that they are behind during the streak is even better the the 1996 Bulls 72-10 record for the entire season, the best season in NBA history! Keep it up, Blazers! This is truly special[/b]

Earlier I was listening to ESPN Radio and I heard a sort of montage of clips put together as an advertisement.. in the midst of a bunch of random stuff you hear Pritch say something to the effect of "People say they're too young but in some ways it's a good thing because they never know when they're out and are extremely resilient."

Yea, that is really true about the Blazers, and it is something that Hollinger doesnt account for in his playoff predictions. (Not to dis on Hollinger, he admits his system isnt perfect, as no numbers system will be).
