NBA All-Star Weekend -- Who Should go ??

Post#1 » by Ripcity4life » Wed Jan 9, 2008 11:58 pm

Who should go represent the Blazers at All Star weekend ? I mean the events not just the All Star game itself. These are my Picks:

Rookie - Soph Game :

Aldridge , Roy and Sergio ( If Roy Gets in Main Game ) For Soph. Team

Skills Challenge :

None

3-Point Shootout :

James Jones OR Martell Webster

Slam Dunk Contest :

Travis Outlaw

East - West All-Star Game :

Brandon Roy

I can see this happening all except Outlaw cause he has said something about it before forget what he said but something like being nervous or something. I think James Jones should be invited however i am not sure he would do well cause he is a game shooter and that contest might not suite him. I would be curious to see if you agree or disagree and your reasoning. All i know is i hope the Blazers get represented and not just for Rookie -Soph. Game.

I agree for the most part.

Like you said, Outlaw would be nice
but I doubt he would be asked or go.

Sergio might be a reach.. .but he
would be very fun to watch there!!

Rook v Sophomore Game

Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge.

(Not a chance Sergio gets into that game.)

Skills Challenge

N/A.

3-Point Shootout

James Jones.

Dunk Contest

N/A. Travis is ineligible to compete in the Dunk Contest because he's been in the league for too many years now.

The Big Game

Brandon Roy.

Hey Spykes you said Outlaw is not eligible cause he has been in league to long. I am not sure thats right more then the NBA likes to showcase young stars over Vets. However Outlaw is Young even though this is his 4th season. However i think even IF invited he would decline.

You can be in both the Rookie-Sophmore game AND the All-Star game? Always wondered about that.

realistically the only person who has a chance to make the all-star team is Brandon Roy, but the West is loaded with All-Star caliber guards already. So unless Brandon Roy gets a nod from the coaches, he'll probably be the last on the potential All-Star guard list.

Jason Terry and Jerry Stackhouse shouldn't even be in the top 10...

Is there a rule that says that you have to be involved in one of the games to be in the 3pt shootout? If not, it would be ridiculous if they didn't inivite James Jones...the NBA player with the highest 3pt%.

As much as I'd like to assume that James Jones will have to be invited to be in the 3pt contest, I'm not getting my hopes up this year. Granted, in past years we haven't been getting this much (positive) publicity, but I'm still not getting my hopes up. The 3pt percentage stats don't lie, and suggest that he has a good chance, but the past has shown us that the NBA makes some crazy decisions about who to invite to these events. (Anybody remember Chris Andersen in the dunk contest?)

I already gave up on B-Roy's all star game chances long ago, sadly. :(

its either you have to be in your first 2 years or 3 (I cant remember) to be able to be in the contest. Personly I think that its a stupid rule but the NBA I guess does it so the contest and bring exposer to the younger players.

As far as the main question at hand. Roy has a darkhorse chances at the big game. The west is so stack it will be tough to get in. Either way both Roy and LA are locks for the Rook-Soph game.. but no way Sergio makes it. And after that Id say Jones has to be a lock for the 3 point contest, which makes me wonder can you have 2 players from the same in that contest?? If so it would be cool for Webster to get in also but no biggie if he doesnt.

There is absolutely no reason Martell should be in the 3 point contest..

Nah, Mike Miller was in it a few years ago and Jason Kapono was in(and won it) last year. I seriously don't think they were in the All-Star game.

I can't imagine any way that James Jones isn't in the 3pt Shooting Contest this year.

Roy should make the ASG and the sophmore team, LA should make the sophmore team, and James Jones should be in the 3-pt contest.

Not that it would ever happen but I think it would be cool if webster was in the dunk contest
