Quick: Blazers in talks with East team for PG and SF

Post#1 » by Spykes » Thu Jan 29, 2009 9:34 pm

Quick talked about trade rumors that he's hearing that aren't in the media yet. He said the Blazers are talking to 2 teams right now. One is a minor deal with a Western Conference team that doesn't look like it'll get done. The other is a very serious deal with an Eastern team that the Blazers have had conversations with in the past that would bring a PG and a SF back that could push the Blazers into championship contention. The deal would involve Raef's contract and 2 players in the Blazers rotation, but no starters would be involved.

Thoughts about what team that might be?

I imagine this would either be a Wallace/Felton or Deng/Kirk deal. Possibility of Jefferson/Sessions but I don't think Sessions improves our PG position strong enough to push us into championship contender status and think Jefferson only pushes us into maybe WCF at most.

I think the obvious bench players are Outlaw and Sergio, with an outside chance of Bayless if it is for Wallace/Felton.

Hinrich and Deng. (is my guess)

But who are the non starters going out? Does Webster count, he isn't a starter as we speak.

Quick said it's 2 players who are currently in the Blazers rotation, so it won't be Webster. Besides, teams don't normally trade for injured players.

My guess is Sergio and Outlaw are the two players going alongside Raef.

NO KIRK! He would not improve us, Bayless is already better defensively then he is and Blake is a better shooter. I am just not sold on Deng though. We do not need a point guard, a SF is another story though.

Ah, thank you.

My guess would be Outlaw and Sergio depending on the deal...

if the deal is for Wallace then I think his health is a big concern...

Sergio and Outlaw seem to make the most sense going out. I couldn't remember if he stressed current rotation, or just part of the Blazers rotation, and how that could or couldn't include Bayless. I was hoping it wasn't including him, just selfishly. Also, would Chicago really want bayless with Rose there, and with the recent 5 year history of having a 6'3" SG in Gordon? Can't imagine they would want to duplicate that, but at the same time, i can't see Sergio and Outlaw being a fair deal for them.

Deng and Hinrich would be excellent, and was the initial deal I thought. Possibility that it's Nocioni and Hinrich instead, though.

Thank you, and going along those lines, can we rule Wallace out? Or is this injury not that serious? It sounds like a big deal. That is why I'm thinking its Hinrich and Deng... Jefferson is pretty good but does Sessions really upgrade the PG position that much?

Im with you, we do however have webster and batum if wallace went down for a while. Most of his injuries seem like bad luck to me. With roy slashing maybe wallace could focus more on his mid range game and D.

I doubt it's Miller and Iguodala and IMO Felton or Sessions won't "push the Blazers into championship contention," so I'd guess it's Deng and Hinrich.

I'd be thrilled with the two of them coming to Portland. They've both shown what they're capable of, are total class acts, and would round out an amazing starting five.

I would be sad if Rudy or Bayless gets shipped off and we don't land us a good / great player.

Chicago's TE makes endless possibilities work. I would assume that Raef and Outlaw would be sent out with someone other than Sergio (CHI doesn't need a PG, IMO Sergio doesn't have much value to most teams).

IMO Rudy's fair game if it lands us Deng.

Honestly, do (any) of the players mentioned in this thread combine to get us into the Championship conversation? I'm just not seeing it at all. Is there some combo out there we are missing? And for selfish reasons and obvious ones, if Rudy is part of this deal I'll be sick.

Rudy is THE man :)

I would say the combo of Deng and Hinrich definitely gets us into the championship level discussions. Probably not this season, but a rotation of
Hinrich/Roy/Deng/LMA/Oden
Blake/Bayless/Rudy/Batum/PF/Przybilla looks pretty damn good next season. And still leaves us with our first rounder, expirings in Ike and Frye, Freeland, Koppo, etc.
