I guess Sergio is learning about that American phrase "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" :D

That's irony for ya. He demands to be trade because he's a backup PG only getting around 15mpg on a playoff team, now he can't even get into a game on easily the worst team in the NBA. Sucks for Sergio. He'll be back in Europe next season.

I was never a Sergio fan, and always thought those people clamoring for Sergio to get playing time over Blake were nuts.

That said, it's a bit sad to see what it's come to for his NBA career. He seems to be a great guy, but just doesn't have wide enough of a skillset to be an effective NBA player. Reality can be an awfully cold shower sometimes

Well, I guess it's lucky we didn't fire Nate because he wasn't playing Sergio. I don't suppose a little thing like being wrong will stop the "fire Nate" crew from continuing to pursue their cause.

With due respect, those who criticized Nate for not playing Sergio did so in Sergio's first season when there was still a chance that he could develop a jump shot. While I'm on the fire Nate bandwagon, I'm not sure I really blamed Nate for not playing Sergio considering his inconsistency.

See, you got it all wrong. Nate ruined Sergio.

I forgot about that angle. The best recent example of a ruined future HOF'er is the damage MJ did to Kwame's psyche.

I don't know what it is, but the Blazers are 0 for 47 on developing young PG's

They are doing a good job developing Blake and Miller.

Seems like a lot of reactionary posts in this thread. Most of you seem to be forgetting that Sacramento has a lot of money invested in Beno (who is actually a decent PG) and Tyreke Evans is a stud and a super high lotto pick. Sacramento's problem this year is certainly not their PG rotation.

My criticism of Nate concerning Sergio was that he and Blake both got burn at the expense of Bayless. I see this as a stronger argument now considering that we just let Sergio walk and we didn't make a serious push in the playoffs. Sure seems like last year we had a perfect opportunity to give Jerryd some developmental time.

I fully convinced Sergio was around last season solely to recruit and inter grate Rudy into the team.

Beno Udrih is easily on the level of Steve Blake, if not above him..

last season, per36, pace-adjusted:

points: Udrich 12.7....Blake 13.6
rebounds: Udrich 3.5....Blake 3.0
assists: Udrich 5.4....Blake 6.2
turnovers: Udrich 2.5....Blake1.9

shooting:

FG: Udrich .461....Blake .428
3ptFG: Udrich .310....Blake .427
FT: Udrich .820....Blake .840
TS: Udrich .525....Blake .557
eFG: Udrich .486....Blake .536

advanced stats:

PER: Udrich 12.3....Blake 14.4
OpponentPER: Udrich 18.8....Blake 15.0 (as calc by 82games)
NetPER: Udrich -5.1....Blake +1.2 (as calc by 82games)
OffRating: Udrich 104....Blake 118
DefRating: Udrich 116....Blake 110

Last season, Blake simply had better numbers across the board. It's a stretch to say the 2 players were on the "same level"

This season, Udrich has started out very well on the offensive end, while Blake has started poorly. Udrich is putting up numbers far above his norm. Blake's numbers are below his norm. Common sense would say the odds are those numbers for both players will level out closer to their norms.

Clearly, on the offensive end, Udrich is performing better right now. That may hold true for the rest of the season.

On defense, Blake is clearly better, notwithstanding what the Blake-haters here will say. Blake's defensive rating is 102 while Udrich's is 114. And Blake is holding opponents to a PER of 13.5, while Udrich is giving up a whopping 19.4 PER to opponents.

Then there's the little matter of their contracts. Blake is owed 4 million for a season. Udrich is owed 27.7 million over 4 seasons.

All things considered, I'd imagine most teams would take Blake if they had to make a choice between the two.

The only thing that's probably certain is that whatever teams had either Blake or Udrich as starters would spend time looking to upgrade their PG position
