Game 39 Thread - Kings (20-18) vs Magic (15-25)

Post#1 » by codydaze » Mon Jan 9, 2023 11:50 pm

After a disappointing loss to the Lakers, the Kings host an Orlando Magic team that is rolling as of late.

Things I'm looking for tonight:
1. Defense? After a brief stretch where it looked like we may be turning a corner as a team, defensively, we have taken multiple steps back, ranking 2nd to last in the league in DRTG over the last 10 games and giving up 122.3 PPG in that stretch. Our offense hasn't faltered, there's a +2.0 difference in ORTG in our last 10 vs. our season-long mark and we're putting up 1.6 more PPG, it's been our inability to stop anything at all that's caused us to go 4-6 over this stretch. At some point we need to defend if we want to continue winning, it sounds like a broken record at this point but we cannot get ourselves into a shootout every night. It's just unsustainable.

2. Come prepared. This has all the makings of a trap game, the last matchup took a half court buzzer beater from Fox to get the win and the Magic are rolling as of late, going 10-5 over their last 15 games. The ROTY favorite, Paolo Banchero, and Franz Wagner power this team and defending the forward positions has been especially tough for us this year so we should have our hands full today for sure. We need to be prepared and sharp for this matchup or things can go south very quickly.

3. Keep me out the dog house. Since making the post gloating about being undefeated in the games I created a game thread for, we are a disappointing 6-6. I should have just kept my mouth shut, but like a play-by-player announcer talking during free throws I seem to have jinxed us. I need this keep me above .500 and out of the dog house  . I don't want any concern threads for me going on in here.

lineups are cooking. most everyone playing well except

the first play I turned off after getting a snack in the 2nd quarter is bird brain monk driving and turning it over passing it to no one in the paint for the magic fast break, and he's 1-4. Is he just a bad player now? and Murray going 40 minutes without a rebound and counting

I tune it late, immediately see intriguing calls from the refs. Par for the course.

barnes is a pros pro. just dont know who you can replace him with reasonably without giving up a lot. might still be our best bet in FA

if Murray isnt rebounding how id like at least he seems to be tapping into great shooting over the course of this season

I think we should just keep Barnes as long as the contract isn't obscene.

Fox's outside shooting has been in the 25% range for over a month or so, for as good as hes been in the clutch.

I don't know why Metu hasn't been getting Holmes minutes this whole time. I get we're probably trying to get his trade value up but I think it just ended up doing the opposite.

At this point the only time Holmes should enter the game is in an absolute blowout. Brown's given him more than enough opportunities its just not there anymore.

He would have essentially been an expiring contract next season as the 24/25 season is a PO. If he's not playing though he's not opting out. At this point, the only way he can get value back is if Domas goes down and he takes the starting position for a while.
It's frustrating because everyone in Sacramento should know what he is capable of.
