Alex Sarr

Post#1 » by Hal14 » Thu Jul 27, 2023 1:14 am

It's still very early of course, But Sarr is #4 on my 2024 board at the moment.

Thoughts?

He's gotta a little bit of Evan Mobley and Noah Clowney in him..

Not sure where these plays are in that compilation video above, but there's 2 plays in the game vs USA that really stood out where he makes impressive off the dribble moves to the basket..at 11:15 and 21:43 here:

If you're looking for tape from last season, he played in OTE for the YNG Dreamerz.

Haven't seen enough from this class to rank him but just what I have seen from him already, to me he looks like a high lottery pick.

agreed. I'd love to see him shoot more threes and pick n pops but he's super young (turned 18 years old less than 3 months ago) and talented. I don't think he's quite the prospect Mobley was but it's close. We'll see how it pans out by the time the draft rolls around. Since he has more tape than the other guys he has to be in that top 5 range as we sit.

We're gonna hear the Evan Mobley comp a lot with Sarr over the next year. Mobley may have been a little more athletic/fluid/explosive. But overall, Sarr (at least at the same age, when both were entering their season prior to being drafted) are pretty close I think.

Sarr should be in the mix for a top 5 selection at this point. Will be interesting to watch how his shooting, ball skill, rim protection and overall aggressiveness, rebounding. I mean, it will be interesting to see how everything comes along this season in the NBL. Could go top 3, or could slide to 10-15 range. Who knows, it's still very early..

Is he the brother of Olivier Sarr?
I was right about 3 point shooting. I expect to be right about Tacko Fall. Some coach will figure out how to use Tacko Fall. This movement towards undersized centers will sweep ng back. Back to the basket scorers will return to the NBA.

I have Sarr around the same spot on my big board, too. Granted it is not super well-informed, but I have (in my head, at this moment):
Buzelis
Castle
Edwards

Had another very good game vs Ignite tonight, was all over the place. Seems very good in pick n roll already with a great motor.

26pts/10 rebounds/6 blocks/3 steals.
Is he a Top 5 lock at that point?

I would think so - yeah

6 blocks in one game and then he comes back 2 days later and has 6 blocks in the next game. Against one of the best non-NBA teams in the world...at age 18. Jeesh.

Sarr getting early attention for #1 per the wiretap. At this point, I think he should certainly be in contention.

Mobile, athletic, 3PT range, great shotblocking, doesnt need high usage to impact the game, not selfish, switchable as hell for a C - the kid should have always been in Top-5 contention. His skillset at this position is in 'tickle-me-Elmo in 1996' demand.

Yup. The Wemby/Chet/JJJ/Evan Mobley archetype. Very valuable. These guys all went top 4 in the draft.

6'11" or taller, all-NBA defense potential, strong case for best defender in their draft class. Really good rim protector with ability to also switch out on the perimeter. On offense, not a great self creator, but can hit 3's pretty well, has solid passing feel, crashes the offensive boards, can be a rim runner, can be a lob threat, roll man and show flashes of taking his man off the bounce.

Sarr certainly fits the archetype.

EDIT - for the life of me I can't get the Instagram link to work, so search 'NBLNews' on IG.

This is why the NBL is great for the development of the Next Stars. He won't get everything his own way, and hopefully he can learn to keep his cool in these situations.
