I know we're playing guys who are, to put it, nicely, going to get the warmest bench minutes/fighting for their spots now, but we have 13 4th Q points. Oof.

4TH Q: SPURS 89 ROCKETS 99

Well we have to give the rest of the guys minutes and the pattern indicated that the bench struggled to score which stayed true.

Dom looked terrific.

Good to see Khem play. He's big, willing to use his body, and screens and passes well. Understand his role and has some BBIQ and facilitating skills. Ok good.

Blake (2-10, 0-1 from 3) and Malaki (4-9, 2-3 from 3) need to finish better at the rim. It's something young players who are on the smaller side struggle with early in their careers (Tre did too, before he got crafty with it) and it's less about getting swatted away (though that's part of it) than it is just using the glass angles and properly to put the ball in. Just too much unreliable variance with it right now and we need that to be tighter because they're both so quick in getting to the basket well. But both contributed on other ways as well with rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.

We pushed the ball well in transition - good.

Nobody overdribbled - good.

Our O looked more cohesive, like we were looking for certain sets patiently and looking to exploit mismatches. But 18 TOs in total needs work as does a woeful 14-27FTs. Oof. Can't happen on a pro team. Good shot distribution.

Much better team D and man D and help D. Better rotations and punishment at the rim. Good blocking awareness. Nine blocks is great.

Better rebounding (boxing out can still use some work but better effort in going after the ball).

Osman with a team-high +21. We have something here. He's starting to flourish in our system on both ends.

It's rare for the entire bench to struggle to score mightily but then they're not going to finish many games. Just one of those mental lid on the basket games.

Zach, Keldon, and Jeremy is a NICE trio. Insert Devin and Wemby and this is a FUN and dangerous 1 through 5 on both ends.

My sense is that, despite being briefed on the new media reality, our guys are starting to get slightly put off by all the Wemby questions, especially of the have you seen him do something freaky variety. Yes yes of course....

And it's one thing to ask about Wemby's game when he plays, another when he doesn't. KJ and Zach did a good job acknowledging the Wemby questions and pivoting to the wider team lens or their respective games.

I get it, Wemby is a freak if nature, and this is a better challenge to have than not, but hopefully the Wemby-centric questions turn more individual or team focused come regular season. Everyone has worked hard to get ready for this season.
