That's not necessarily true. If you get a lot of steals because you're constantly overplaying your man and overplaying the passing lanes, which would allow your man an open path to the hoop when your gamble fails, then you would be a pretty awful defender.
Understandable...But still, playing the passing lanes, and overplaying players is still an aspect of defence. Maybe not a good strategy but some teams encourage players to play that way as they have good help defenders to make up for it if the player falters.
Either way though...Caron has above average D in my opinion.
