Was just noting the same. Just shows how far away those countries are in terms of development.

I know it's in the spirit of the Olympics to have representation from every continent but it really does suck that 2 spots are going to be awarded to teams that don't even finish in the Top 16 of this tourney. Even worse, as a result of this, there are going to be two decent European/American teams that are not going to be able to pick-up points in the Olympics by simply not qualifying.

I understand they want geographic representation in these tournaments but those 2 areas having 2 guaranteed Olympics spots is a joke. The Worlds prove that they should be relegated to a lower tier.

Atleast a basketball nation is hosting the olympics this time, it makes it worse when theres a weak host taking up another spot.

Cameroon would have the best front court in the world I reckon if they got everyone to play. No idea who would be in the backcourt...maybe they could get some American a quick passport to play and they'd be a force.

Aside but I didn't realize Roy Rana was coaching Egypt until I saw a quote in (I think) a SN article. Wild

I always thought about this whenever raps and sixers play each other but I never heard anything about either of them playing for Cameroon

Then it comes out that Embiid is gonna join France lol

They could just run pascal at pg with embiid and koloko in the paint and put the country’s two best shooters around them lol

Even with mediocre talent around Embiid & Siakam, you'd think they'd be a threat to other African teams. I don't think they've ever played FIBA games.

Ouch. What a letdown. Not gonna win many games when Kelly, RJ, Dillon, and NAW all go missing.

All the reasons why I was bit apprehensive about this team(and why I've been pleasantly surprised so far) showed up today. Was worried about the inconsistent shooting, lack of playmakers, and size deficiencies. Still surprised they insisted on not moving the ball and attacking 1-on-1 after how physical the 1st half went.

Good thing is they still control their destiny with the win against Spain on Sunday, (if I understand FIBA's convoluted rules correctly).

Yes, we still control our destiny, as do all the teams battling us for the second auto qualifier spot behind the US.
DR, PR, Brazil, and Canada are all in the same boat - win on Sunday and they are in the QFs, lose and they are in the 9 to 16 bracket.

Following you to this thread - pretty sure there is no 9-16 bracket.

Yes, I checked and I was mitaken. There are classificaiton games for 5 to 8, but not 9-16.

So in that scenario (Italy beats PR, Serbia beats DR, Latvia beats Brazil, and Spain beats Canada), all four of the Americas teams would finish 3-2 and I guess it would come down to point differential and we would (most likely) be through?

Anyway, let's hope we can avoid relying on the other three to lose.

If all 4 of us lose on Sunday, I believe it comes down to point differential. Not sure if H2H plays into it (if it does, Brazil has the edge).

If it is purely point differential, we are good to go as long as Spain doesn't beat us by something insane like 50+.

I do think it's unlikely that all 4 of us are going to lose. I bet 1 of these 4 teams wins. Really hoping it's us.

Looks like we would be out in that scenario, as HTH would determine standings within each goup.
So Brazil would be 3rd and Canada 4th in our group (and PR would be 3rd and DR 4th in their pool).
Which of PR and Brazil would get the 2nd Americas spot in the Olympics would come down point differential (because they would not have any H2H).

Anyway, beat Spain and we don't have to worry about any of this.

what a difference wiggins and murray would've made even sharpe. relying on brooks and barrett bricks isn't going to work.
