Two time all-NBA and two time all-star traded for Bruce Brown: Indiana gets worse, Raptors stay the same

Wait how can you say it was for nothing when we have not even used our draft picks yet?

Maybe a wait a few years until we see the effect of these draft selections.

Bruce Brown is still a decent trade piece to have in the summer.

Also, Siakam was an expiring and we unloaded him for picks so we wouldn't have to pay him 50m a year. Opens up a ton of cap flexibility.

Who are all these other players Mr. Captain Hindsight?

Fred? Who no one expected to get 43m from any team last summer, LOL?

Maybe its time for you to find another team to follow. Can I interest you in the NJ Nets or Atlanta Hawks?

Why don’t you take a look at the 18/19 roster and you’ll find your answer.

It wasn't for nothing, it allowed us to get Kelly O/Ochai, but the full return with the draft picks will take years to see through.

We knew it would suck in the near-term and obviously we were hoping for a better return, but it still beats paying Siakam max money as he ages into his 30s.

It's not as if we were on a drastically different path with the roster we started out the season with, how soon we forget lol

We were a bad team before the trade. Whats showing its effect is bad management since our title. We are now stomaching tough medicine to hopefully get back on track.

The sweet release of paying him 40 million dollars was the real win.

The only teams that even sniff a finals are the ones with a top 10 player. At this point the roster needs a Batman not a handful of 3rd fiddles like Fred, og, Pascal

Kelly/Ochai/Brown aren’t lighting the world on fire b it we still got a couple more picks. Hopefully trade Browns useless ass too for something.

Derozan

Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

I can’t believe dudes here actually think these guys comprise a decent return for a player of Siakam’s calibre. We clearly sold low because we held on for too long.

Kawhi - needed to keep him for the championship
Marc Gasol - near retirement, not much trade value
Danny Green - near retirement, not much trade value
Ibaka - washed up, didn't want to re-sign to backup Gasol and we tried to low ball him
Lowry - Precious
Boucher - still here
Powell - GTJr
Siakam - Bruce Brown, Kelly, Agbaji, Nwora, 2 1sts
OG - IQ/RJ/2nd
FVV - walked

So basically, we didn't get much out of a bunch of old washed up players who did nothing for the rest of their career or retired soon after (Danny Green, Gasol, Ibaka, Lowry). Players on this level are available all the time. The problem is more so getting zero high level role players. We got Temple, Schroder, McDaniels, Bremby, Baynes, Yuta, Stanley Johnson, Alex Len, Birch, Svi, RHJ etc. and a whole bunch of G-league players.

FVV is still the biggest mistake (assuming Grayson Allen + pick was offered) in terms of "losing players for nothing".

A lot of people say the returns weren’t great for Siakam earlier, but obviously had to have been way better than what we got now. Watching how well he’s playing, I think it’s pretty clear we just didn’t want to give up on a very good player. Him and Scottie just didn’t mix well enough though. Scottie isn’t there yet as the ball handler/offensive player Siakam thrives beside, so at times it looked good but wasn’t a winning formula today.

I wasn't a huge fan of the return in this trade either.

But the primary return was draft picks, more than half of which have not even been selected yet. How can you possibly make any determination on the "effect" of this trade right now?

What your list shows is who actually had trade value.

OG was it.

The rest did not have any real trade value. Most because they were at the end of their careers (Kawhi the exception but he couldn’t be traded for obvious reasons), Powell on expiring and they didn’t want to pay him, and then there were Pascal and Fred who clearly other organizations did not value enough to give up real assets.

This reflects poorly on Siakam, I'm sad to say - and he will not get a max because of this.
