Seems legit enough as a backup centre. He's played okay these past couple games

This team is going to be BAD for another 2 years. Might as well take chances on some prospects.

Remember we had Hassan Whiteside before he blew up.

ALOT of people were calling him a scrub.

The rebounding has translated over but he looks like a complete liability offensively.

He can hit an open 3, so not a complete liability. But you kind of expect to see better finishing at the rim. OTOH, Claxton's can't be the easiest guy to start your NBA career off against.

I have a feeling we'll see a lot of Williams against the Heat. Need a larger sample size. But rebounding and 3 point shooters are definite team needs. It's a shame about Jontay Porter, but he wasn't a fierce rebounder.

If he shoots the 3 at around 30%, that's not a really useful skill.

OK, I just did a deeper dive on the guy. Didn't realize he's gonna turn 26 this summer. Shot 32% from 3 in the G-League, and between .286 and .323 in five years in college. Can there be any upside there? Probably not.

But man, this team could use a tough, aggressive rebounder.

I get you’re trying to be funny and you’ve sort of succeeded.

Apologies, but seeing Carlos Rogers on lists like these is a pet peeve of mine. He doesn’t belong on any list that highlights negatives. He was on track to be an effective long time pro until he sacrificed his career to give his sister a kidney. Mad props to him! He’d have had a very solid lengthy career otherwise. I can’t stomach any disrespect aimed his way.

I have great respect for Carlos Rogers as a person but as a basketball player...he wasn't that good as evidence by the fact that he was left unprotected by the team that drafted him in the expansion draft. His highest averages were at 25 at 9.8 points and about 5 rebounds depiste playing about 25 mpg. He came back and stuck it out with Houston for a few more years when he managed to carve out a role playing 20 mpg and averaging 8 points per game in 1999-2000 at age 28.

And...no...he did NOT give up his kidney. His sister died BEFORE he could give it up. So...he has 2 fully functional kidneys and he played as mostly a bench guy until the age of 30. We all loved the athleticism and dunks when he was a Raptor but he was always one of those guys we loved because of the potential. Granted...an NBA career that spans 6-7 years in a bench role is nothing to sneeze at but as a former 11th overall pick you would hope for more.

He totally fits my list.

A 56% career TS playing in that era isn't terrible at all and maybe he was actually ahead of his time a bit and would be more suited to playing in this current era.

Teams also did weird stuff back then. 9 and 6 in 20 mins a game on decent efficiency (at the time) in your rookie year would be looked at as very promising today and certainly not bad enough to leave unprotected in an expansion draft.

Another example would be the Marcus Camby trade. We traded a 23 year old who was the #2 overall pick and blocked 3.7 shots a game for a 35 year old role player in Oak. Do you think there is even a remote chance a trade like that happens today?

He has good bulk to his frame which is probably why he could out-hustle those Brooklyn guys for so many boards. But, their length obviously bothered him and as a rookie he isn't likely to get calls. I will say even if you are a skinny frame, in today's NBA you can still be very effective. Both Claxton and Clowney are slim framed guys, but getting 10+ blocks shows how wingspan can put a lid on the rim.

If we go with a project big, there is still potential for them to help with rim protection, although they have to good, we can't keep trotting out random G-League guys and expect to win. At least this draft has a lot of good potential rim protectors.

I remember the OG scrubs that I fell for:

Martin Lewis - First high flyer prospect that I thought could become our MJ
Jimmy King - Fab 5 fame
Shawn Respert - Michigan State scorer. I thought he could be our first allstar.
BJ Tyler - I thought he was our starting PG until he fell asleep with an ice pack on his leg
