And that’s why he needs more work. The shooting form has to be automatic and it needs to hold up when rushed or fatigued.

I am confident a wider study would indicate that 3PT % declines as the year progresses more significantly for self-made shooters in the NBA, especially in the playoffs. In the summer they're building up that memory from a few spots on the court, and then as you said it gets scouted out (to the extent they 'rush' when they hit those spots) or they are impacted by the wear and tear of the season.

Maybe - but probably not 10-15% like Scottie is experiencing

Been calling for Scottie to be a hub since last season. Now with all the changes and better players that suit Darko style, it feels like they are now committed to that plan. His offense is still in progress and it will get better. Team is still in the talent gathering stage and that includes growth of players and drafting/trading

That's a poor plan.

Historically has actually been quite difficult to find that player through the draft.

Historically it is hard to find that player anywhere.

It's the most viable path if you know the history. Expedite the process instead of delaying constantly. Otherwise the struggle to beat good teams will continue.

Is it the most viable path?

How many finals MVPs were drafted by their own team? If you look at the best Raptors of all-time, how many were drafted high in the lottery vs acquired via FA/trade/non-lottery draft?

Despite you speaking in an authoritative way, does not make it so.

The more picks you have, probability increases. The higher the picks you have, probability increases.

No one argues that.

However, the less talent you have, the probability increases that you will not be able to replace it. The only way to get into the high lottery is to bleed talent.

So sure, we can probably go into the lottery and MAYBE find that scorer you desire, but at the cost of what? And then once we have that scorer, now you gotta get all those other pieces you just bled.

It is not as simple as you think it is... if it was, Charlotte, Detroit, Sacramento, etc. would be 5x champs by now this century.

I keep hearing "smaller, less scoring version of jokic" offensive hub type guy.

That guy literally exists in the NBA. His name is Sabonis. A very good player, all nba level player in his own right.

To me, Scottie at this point is a modern day Andrei Kirilenko. AK47's defense was better at this stage, but he dropped off as his career went on due to injuries and lack of progression/improvement.

As a scorer, Scottie needs to watch Giannis, Durant, Kawhi, Paul George and even Doncic, then take what works for him. Most important aspect is polishing up that jumper.
Other than both being good shot blockers, their games are way too different for this player comp, especially on the offensive end. I would say Aaron Gordon is a much closer to an AK47 archetype

That why I said modern day. Everyone's offensive game is raised up a level in today's game. They're both ranked around 40th in the league in PPG compared to their peers.

But the comparison wasn't meant to be 1 to 1. The parallels are mostly in 1) scoring ability (not style) relative to the rest of the league, 2) lanky SF/PF tweeners, 3) above average passers (Scottie's better at directing the floor with better handles and court vision), 4) good help defenders, 5) shaky 3 point shooters

AK47 was an all-star in his 3rd season. Aaron Gordon hasn't really come close to that at any point in his career and his shot blocking is lackluster. If Scottie was 3rd year AK47 level on O, he wouldn't be an all-star this year.

A lot of Raptors fans don’t appreciate what Scottie is and going to become

Best line of that is when Draymond said, “He’s making guys around him better.”

(Despite the Scottie love, Draymond still a clown)

What a great season from Scottie nonetheless, he was awesome this year

It's a shame the season had to end like this for him, but I expect him to come back motivated next year

He had a great season, lots of ups and downs, but the downs are how you figure out what is needed

He improved his shot, developed a left hand, and upped his cardio last summer.

Hopefully this summer we see further growth in his shooting and ups the cardio even more while tightening his handle and works on some go to moves to score.

Offseason goals:
- Shed 10 lbs
- Tighten up handle
- Keep plugging away at the 3
- Add a move or two to the bag

I think that should cover it plenty for his 4th season.

Great leap this year, and I expect even more next year. Hopefully he becomes a perennial All-Star, and as soon as the team starts doing better, a regular on the All NBA teams as well.

One bad thing about the season ending the way it did (assuming that's the case) is that because he got injured after only playing 16 minutes, he only scored 10 points, which dropped his season average down to 19.9 ppg. It sucks that he didn't get over 20 ppg for the year.

Barnes final stats basically for his 3rd season

19.9 PPG/ 15.7 shots/ 47.5% FG/ 34.1% 3P %/ 78.1% FT/ 8.2 RBS/ 6.1 AST/ 2.8 TO/ 1.5 BLK/ 1.3 STL

Him taking on the 1st option for his team likely sunk his 3P %, otherwise it would have been over 37% I think, but that was something he needs to experience regardless (being a 1st option).

I think he was hitting a nice stride with learning how to run the offence and being willing to incorporate the middy. These are the main things with addition to ball handling that need to be improved to take the next step. It sucks that he won't continue to get the in game development but hopefully he can rest up and start working on these skills early.

The highest probability is asset accumulation and consolidation.
