What a fantastic trade that ended up being. The in-season turnaround leading right into the "We The North" era. Beautiful. Rudy Gay is a complete afterthought in basketball history. If you do think about him, it's to use him as a textbook example of underachievement.

Can't blame him, he missed playing in the beautiful metropolitan city of Memphis before coming here.

His most high rizz moment in Toronto was this video (when he wasn't even a Raptor) and being traded for John Salmons, Greiveis Vasquez, Patrick Patterson, and Chuck Hayes. Actually can't believe we got that much for him, lol.

What a sad career.

It’s funny, I wouldn’t have described it as sad after he reinvented himself as a solid bench guy, played multiple years under Popovich, and had a nice long career where he made a bunch of money. Clearly he had some respect for the game.

But then he comes out with this bitter as hell POV. Playing it up for the podcast audience? You’d think he could just be grateful for all the good fortune and opportunities.

Bum like him deserves no response or attention. I mean, we got real good by trading him away, what does that say about him as a player?

I dont think the average joe likes toronto either.

I think he means "**** toronto" at that time. it was a dumpster fire of an organization at that time. And lets not forget he got a star's welcome and treatment in the city because we legit thought he'd break out in Toronto. He didn't.

But even if he means it, it just goes to show Americans mostly want to stay in America.

what a douche. I still remember right after the trade the Open Gym team filming every single step he made from picking him up from the airport to riding in the car on the Gardiner. Him saying he was very excited and that why didn't BC draft him in the first place. Of course, all that was fake.

One of our worst acquisitions along with Hedo talking ****. Perfect that Rudy and Melo are on a podcast together, so similar in approaches to the game.

Funny thing is as poorly as he played here and as badly as we sucked in the short time he was here, he managed to hit 2 game winners. Even the legendary 11-37 game, he hit a game tying 3 to send it to OT. He was actually quite good in the clutch because of his ability to get his shot off.

Lol I remember that. He also hit a few game-tying buckets. He was a slightly-higher rizz version of Alan Anderson (another chucker extraordinaire!).

I get why he bashes Toronto. His ego took big time hit. I get it. Let’s not forget at the time of the trade he told Colangelo and media that he should have been a Raptor 7 years earlier at the draft, but I digress.

But why did he go and do stat sheets dirty?

I mean...meh.

Rudy was just not very good. Toronto was the point in his career where it was cemented he was not going to be a productive star and his trade started the We the North era so getting rid of a player like him made Toronto the place it is.

I don't blame him. There are very few players whose departure is given credit for historically turning around a franchise. Must be a weird thing to have over you.

He never really won anything in his career let's he honest. Sure he made a bunch of money but never really improved any team he was on. Most teams got better when he left. I wouldn't call those Spurs' teams great teams. Great he became a role player. Who cares?

Considering what he said, he deserves all this hate. Dude is just salty because he was selfish on our team and we got exponentially better when he left acquiring a bunch of role players.

First I was vex. Then I remembered that rush from celebrating a championship. Or even the rush from every one of those 16 wins.

Rudy Gay will need to cheer on his colleagues if he wants that feeling.. it’s a damn shame

People here are a bit too sensitive:

1. We were a basket case of an org at that point
2. No winning culture
3. Weather is cold
4. High tax
5. Ignorance among American players about playing in another country

It’s a valid point for him to make

What’s laughable is Gay has had a mediocre career. He deserves respect for the longevity but he never achieved anything. I don’t think he ever got out of the first round.

Early in the 2013-2014 season he played some of the most selfish iso-oriented basketball I've ever seen, stunting the growth of Derozan and Lowry. When he got called out on it by the media he literally convinced Casey to ban stat sheets from the locker room. Ironically, Rudy getting traded gave us a solid bench and allowed Lowry and Derozan to thrive, ushering the greatest era in Raptors history.
