If Rasho is brought back that creates a log jam at the 5 and 4. I don't see him beating out O'neal or Rasho for minutes.

Rasho for the vet min. doesn't have to play much, he'd be here for insurance/leadership.

Bargs could still play his 30+ min.

Rasho is worth WAAAAY more than the vet minimum, which is all BC can afford to pay him next year. If there's extra dough in the kitty after Jose's contract (BTW, doesn't Jose have a little bit more leverage today than yesterday), I don't want it going to our #4 big.

And if Hump survives the off-season (he better not be the throw in in the JO trade), I'd like to see him continue to get some minutes. We have to develop some young guys.

But the whole scenario is based on Rasho being bought out. And if that's the case, he'll play for the vet minimum, since anything he earns counts against the buyout anyway.

If Rasho comes back to us then we traded TJ and the pick for JO which is super nice.

I would way rather have Rasho than Maceo.

*Edit - And why wouldn't they want to keep him?

If he was waived he'd be picked up by quite a few teams as you mentioned so even if this were true, he'd have to be waived (seems sort of unlikely), clear waivers (other teams would consider him) and then he'd want to sign here long-term for considerably less than he was making last year.

Seems about as likely to me as that Shawn Marion rumor from 12 hours ago.

Isn't ageist the CBA? I mean if a player is traded from his team isn't he not allowed to return to his previous team for one whole year?

I remember reading something like this somewhere

They also have Jeff Foster and they do play Tory Murphy at the 5 from time to time.

I doubt this happens. If he gets waived, he will be looking for a last NBA contract. It aint like he is going to a championship contender, midseason for veteran mininum. This is the summer and he is looking mutli-year contract. If his agent allows him to sign for the minimum, he should be SHOT. He is still competent big man and I think he could easily get multiple year contract at around $3-5M. Something like 3 years $10M.

Given this situation, and our need for help in the background, I would prefer to use our MLE to get impact player.

Oops, never knew that. Thanks.

But wouldn't it make more sense if say, 50% of the player's new contract applied to the buy-out (i.e. went back to the original team - Indiana in this case). That would provide incentive to get a bidding war going among different teams, and take some of the financial burden off the buying-out team as well as giving the player with the opportunity to make more money.

In any case, if the Suns are interested in Rasho to back-up Shaq, I refuse to believe that the big Slovenian would turn down that opportunity.

I don't see Indiana waiving Nesterovic. He's a real upgrade for them at the 5 (compared to guys like Foster or Harrison) and they can always trade him.
Also, while Toronto is a great city, I think Rasho would rather go to a team where he would start.

I can't see it working out, but man that would be awesome if it did. We could trade Bargs mid-season with Joey and Baston for a 2 guard.

I believe they introduced that rule after the Gary Payton-Antoine Walker trade a few years ago.

But I think it's only a month or so before you can go back to your original team. The Spurs and Sonics did that with Brent Barry this year. Where he was traded for Kurt Thomas, Barry was cut and went back to San Antonio about a month later.
