Thinking long-term, we have three of the five starting positions locked-up (hopefully!). Calderon at PG, Bosh at PF, and Bargnani at C. The question marks are at SG and SF. It's no secret that Jose isn't the most aggressive PG, so my thinking is the Raps need a SG that is aggressive, to balance out the backcourt. I'm not too worried about the SF spot, because the Raps have options at SF (Moon, Graham, Kapono). It's the SG spot that needs work - Anthony Parker is a good SG, but his age makes him (and his position) the #1 issue for the Raps IMO.

So, who's willing to trade a SG like this away for JO? Pretty tough assignment for BC to complete. The Marion + Banks for JO does nothing to address the SG issue. It would give Miami the Center they need, in addition to waving goodbye to Banks & his contract. The Raps wind up with another Forward when a SG is top priority, and a fourth PG in Banks (plus his contract!).

I understand that Colangelo has to move JO, and Marion would be an upgrade for the Raps at SF. My issue would be that despite another roster move by Colangelo, the Raps would still be sorely lacking a long-term solution at SG. Picking up Banks in the deal, and his contract which expires after the 2010-2011 season, is just dead weight that the Raps roster doesn't need. Banks has no hope of playing significant minutes for the Raps, it's about developing Roko off the bench right now. Even Solomon would probably play ahead of Banks off the bench.

I don't like this deal for the Raps, but it would help Miami.

You pretty much nailed it right on the head and I agree with your assessment wholeheartedly. SF isn't our problem at the moment as I believe Joey/Moon can get it done, provided that we do pick up the long-term SG we need. Also, I rather have Roko giving us back-up PG minutes instead of picking up Banks and that salary. Looking back on it, J-Rich would've really been just what we needed. But obviously that ship has sailed on us and unfortunately there's really no other SGs available at the moment (plz no Hughes) and the draft isn't looking stacked at the position aside from Harden/DeRozen/Budinger.

this reminds me so much of the initial JO deal.

Raptors and pacers talking trade

Trade talks heat up

Bird denies any trade talks

JO for Ford soon?

Talks cool down

Talks back on

Deal done

Cleveland waiting to draft Lebron with 1st pick. The team owner held up a Lebron Cavs jersey after the draft lottery.
With the ninth overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Raptors select Vyacheslav Kravtsov from the Ukraine. In Jim Kelly we trust!

Could that be in the interest of showcasing?

I really hope the Howard thing is down the tubes if we go after Marion (ie I hope BC didn't choose Marion/long contract over Joshy).

If we are trading for capspace while adding a long contract, well I just don't know what to say.

IMO this trade doesn`t really help us long term.

By the end of the season we will still have a glaring hole on the wings, we need a creator more than anything when our offense is completely stagnant down the stretch. We will still have a glaring hole in the frontcourt. I can`t see Bargs and Bosh and Humps/Jake as the solution. Our bench is still very thin.

The addition of Marion may help us win some games, but is it too late this season? It will only hurt our draft pick if anything. Weak draft or not you still want every little inch in terms of spots. And of course, dead weight in Banks. Re-sign Marion or not, he is does not fill our biggest needs IMO.

I am all for trading O`Neal, but Bryan`s philosophy is to only make moves if it improves our team. I just don`t see it improving our team, atleast long term. In the end, I will have to trust BC only because he seems to be in a lose lose crappy situation anyway.

We can still go big with Marion at the 3 Bosh at the 4 and Bargs at the 5, but we would have to gel fast.

Oh and another thing im dont with these "former" allstars.. How about a move to aquire an all star?.. sighh..

Marion will leave in the offseason. There is no point in trading for him other than getting cap spaces a year early.

Maybe the racism is in your perception. I expected AB to be picked because BC had circled his name before the lottery, and most of us prediced JC over TJ if for nothing other than the fact Ford is at risk of a career-ending injury.
