Draft Countdown: Jonny Flynn (Raps interested)

There is a little less than a month left in Jonny Flynn's hurried odyssey to the NBA, days filled with hours of grueling sessions with Michael Jordan's personal trainer and tryouts in one city after another.

The pace of the final push probably won't wear on the 20-year-old former Niagara Falls High School and Syracuse University point guard. Remember, Flynn is so full of basketball energy he once played 67 minutes in a six-overtime marathon.

But the effort, Flynn said, is more than worth it, for there is much within his reach. Flynn's skills are rated so highly that he is expected to be among the first 14 players picked in the NBA draft June 25, and he may well become the highest-drafted Syracuse player since Carmelo Anthony went third overall in 2003.

Time constraints may prevent Flynn from playing the drums in his parents' church as often as in the past, but with the riches that will come, he will be able to help with renovations.

"Any team I play for I'll be grateful for the opportunity to come in and help them win a championship," Flynn said. "That's what it's all about. This is a dream come true."

Where Flynn will land is anyone's guess, and last week's draft lottery did little to clear up the picture. Oklahoma's Blake Griffin will likely be selected No. 1 by the Los Angeles Clippers but after that it's a crapshoot. Teams considering Flynn include the New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets, Toronto Raptors, Indiana Pacers and Phoenix Suns.

Positives:
•Excellent athlete with explosive leaping ability
•Super-quick, excellent penetrator
•Almost impossible to stay in front of him
•Pushes the ball
•Good shooter with floaters and mid-range shots
•Great leader on the floor
•Strong, physical player

Negatives:
•Undersized
•Needs to add strength
•Lacks a consistent 3-point shot
•Poor shot selection at times
•Can try to do too much

Raptors all over the place. I guess they're just leaking false info to hype up other players hoping other teams make a mistake. ... that's what i'm hoping anyway.

Calderon will lose his job by the end of training camp if Flynn becomes a Raptor.

I wouldn't mind Flynn, he impressed at the Cuse and has great handles and is an explosive athlete. And if it were between him and Jennings, I think I'd go with Flynn.

If we draft Flynn, Calderon will be traded.. maybe to Golden State for Monta Ellis :D Imagine a backcourt with Flynn and Ellis.. 2 guys that can penatrate and 2 guys that bring more athleticism and gamble to this boring Raptors team.

Flynn has the Chad Ford stink on him, he's cursed to be a bust. Stay away!

I don't know about you guys, but I really like Jonny Flynn. I think he's the second best PG in this draft behind Ricky Rubio. He's got great intangibles and leadership ability. So, I would not mind if Flynn is picked here at 9. He'd be great here, and eventually could take over at PG.

Don't want Flynn....if we don't get Tyreke or Derozan, I would go after Earl Clark or Holliday.

Hey Brinbe I really like your gif signature.
Is it possible that I only use 2 of the 5 frames it has.
The Maple Leafs and Raptors ones? How would I possibly do that?

Thanks

Picked them out from here: http://archive.userbars.com/

And strung em all together using this: http://userbarmaker.com/userbars-animator.php (although there are probably other sites you can use).

Pretty self-explanatory. Hope that helps. :D

Why are we looking into every single player that isn't a shooting guard or small forward?

i do love flynns explosiveness & athleticism.

but tonight at the combine he looked possibly an inch shorter then ty lawson, which makes me believe he'll measure out at around 5'11"

we could make a thread titled "Raptors 'might' Consider ______ " fill in the blank with anybody, and we wouldnt be lying.

jrue holiday ?!?...at 9th?!?..blaaaah! below average player, he's tough but i don't see so much talent in this guy. blair would be definitely better as a pick.

flynn has got talent on his own, he's quick, athletic, he can shoot also (even if many people think he can't...)...my concern is about his playmaking attitude, sometimes he acts like an undersized SG, i don't know, i don't want another juan dixon in there.

anyway, i really don't understand why ty lawson is so ignored ...he looks like a real bargain, especially for a team who lacks pgs that's not our case but who cares...he's extremely good.

Speaking of Lawson....Does anyone else think he's actually the best point guard available after Rubio? In terms of production and pure point guard skills he's the best one out of the NCAA. Maybe all this hype for lesser pg's will make him fall into the 20's somehow where, with another pick, we could grab him. He's the quickest player in the whole draft and seems to be getting no attention at all these days. I love it.
