That is pretty low, but considering the craziness that we've been hearing about out of Golden State, would this really surprise anyone?

I've got a feeling that Jackson may just end up on the Cavs anyway. It seems to me that the best way for Charlotte to get max value out of this deal is to flip S-Jax at the deadline. If they're in the playoff hunt they'll probably opt against that course of action, but I don't see that happening.

What? That's exactly why they should both be hated. If he didn't like the situation he shouldn't have re-upped. If he wanted out, he should have gone to them privately. If he wanted to win, he should have cut his FGA's down dramatically and set up the much better shooters on his team.

How about signing a long-term contract extension and then a year later demand a trade to 3 or 4 locations in the press?

Who cares if Stephen Jackson acted like an idiot? He could have been the biggest douche in the world and it still wouldn't make sense to prioritize getting back at him above making a trade that makes sense for your basketball team. They should have been concerned with getting the best possible return for him, not on trying to trade him someplace where he wouldn't be happy.

But, as others have said, it's not exactly uncharacteristic of GSW management to behave that way.

honestly, mustard, try to to squeeze your Bosh hate into every possible topic. if your friend asks you what the weather's like, you probably tell them its partially Boshy outside ergo its cold and sucky.

Nelson and the Warriors organization alike our cancers. Jackson is a baller and is a very good player, he's going to make the Cats a legit playoff caliber team, at the very least they will be fighting for a playoff spot now. He's a floor leader, vocally and he gets it done with his talent, he has a championship and has led a team to a second round appearance before. He's definitely a player we could use, but I don't blame Colangelo for not going after him, we didn't have the right pieces to make a trade that would have made sense for both teams.

well yeah thats never good, but the fact of the matter is.. he wanted out, which happens. Dude poured his heart and soul into GS only watch management turn the organization into a circus.. it was time for change for SJax and breakups are never pretty.

Jacksons being labeled as some disgruntled cancer which IMO he's far from... people quickly forget how the Warriors were the NBA's poster boys a couple years back, and guess who was running the show for GS?

I expect him to help the Bobcats

I agree, but I didn't get the impression that they turned down a better deal to spurn Jackson. The quote just implied that they took pleasure in the fact that he wasn't getting his wish.

It's definitely petty, but Jackson set them up.

And before you write this off as one more athlete apologia, consider this: Security tapes outside that Indianapolis strip club show a group of men, one with a hand in his back pocket and another under his shirt, approaching Pacers guard Jamaal Tinsley and threatening to "spray his car," Walsh says. (The two groups had exchanged words inside.) When a scuffle broke out, Jackson retrieved his licensed 9mm from his car and fired it in the air to scatter the combatants. The men ran for their car and Jackson walked to his. Thinking the confrontation over, he barely had time to jump as the attackers' gray Chrysler plowed into him. Jackson flipped over the windshield, landed on the trunk and fell to the ground before, as he recalls, he choked on his blood and passed out.

Somebody threatens to "spray your car", so you get your gun and start firing in the air? He's lucky he only got run over. It could've escalated and turned into a shootout.

The deal that the Cav's were offering is a much better deal than what they accepted. It would have given them full expiring contracts. Instead they chose to accept a package that includes an aging Bell on an expiring contract and a scrub in Vlad Rad with 1 more year remaining on his contract.

West is signed through 2011 and is bipolar. You forget that Nellie is trying to reach a milestone in wins, he can use Bell and Radman (who is better than Szcerbiak at this stage). Buying out Big Z only helps out Cleveland.

EDIT: Just checked, West's last year isn't guaranteed, but still, the "Nellie needs wins" argument holds water. Radman may be a scrub, but he started on a Lakers team that made the finals two years ago. Nellie can use a big that can shoot.

The Warriors aren't winning this season. They are a bottom 5 team in the league and have no business trying to improve their team this year just to hurt their lottery chances for the 2010 draft. Only 500K of West's 2010/11 salary is guaranteed so you don't need to keep West ... you waive him and absorb the 500K. It is a much better deal.

EDIT:

Even with a cruddy team they can reach the 21 win mark needed to get Nellie his all time win record.

EDIT again: If Nellie was really that concerned about getting wins, then he shouldn't be dicking around with Randolph's minutes and playing Maggette at C.

Jackson acted like a nice guy until his girlfriend finally put out and then tried to dump her the next morning. He deserves what he got.

The two sides discussed Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Delonte West and a sign-and-trade for Wally Szczerbiak. The Cavs would have included Ilgauskas only if the Warriors agreed to buy out the center so that he could be re-signed by the Cavs after the trade was completed.

wth. that is a dumb trade. That is like helping cavs and jackson while gsw got nothing in return. why would they do that?

Well, it Nelli's eyes, AR needs more discipline and that he would rather play 5 guards.

It's possible they don't see themselves as a bottom 5 team, though, and in that scenario it's better to get two live bodies that they can use to replace Jackson than straight expirings. I don't even think it's a downgrade, personally. They won't lose any defense and they'll have better shot distribution.

I can't answer to Maggette at C, but he did the same kind of things when he was taking down the Mavs.

done deal. good for the cats, considering they have no offense. raja bell is a good player though.

it seems GS gets fleeced in every deal since riley became GM.

Just so you know I'm not looking at this trade for a basketball perspective but more from a salary cap perspective simply because thats the position they should be taking when they are dealing with contacts like Jax's and Maggette's. Obviously you are getting 2 live bodies back but is it really that important when the Warriors are in the position that they are at right now?

whether or not jackson is in the wrong in asking for a trade after signing a long-term contract is a lot more nuanced of a question than most of you are willing to admit.
