Game 29: Utah Jazz (10-18) @ Detroit Pistons (2-25)
I'd hate to lose this one but somehow I'm not encouraged. Maybe it's because Yurtseven, Markkanen, THT, George and Clarkson are listed as OUT. It's probably the Pistons' best chance to avoid breaking the record for the longest losing streak in one season.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

This would have been a great game to start the kids, instead we'll see 35 minutes of Olynyk......

If we go to man to man defense we should be able to run away with it. And Kessler should dominate this game, the Pistons have no interior presence without Duren.

I think Hardy is trying various zone defenses (we played 2-3 zone in this game) and probably sees this as a game where the team can try things in real game conditions and get away with it because of the weak opponent.

Sure enough, Jazz switch to man defense and builds up a lead.

If that's true, the Jazz don't do it enough, as they haven't gotten good t it at all......

It's refreshing to see a team with the capacity to turn the ball over more than the Jazz.

The Jazz aren't good enough to get away with it often. They may not even get away with it this game.
I don't expect them to be good at it at this stage. The coach is essentially sacrificing stretches of every game to play zone in real games and not only in practice so ideally at the end of the season and in the playoffs he'll have another tool to use and that the team can execute well because by then they'd have had a lot of in-game experience with it. I don't mind that he's trying it, only that he sometimes sticks with it too long or uses it against teams that perhaps he shouldn't.
Also we need to keep in mind the Jazz have had a lot of injuries and Hardy is changing the starting lineup almost every game now so it's hard to find consistency.

Almost the end of the 3rd and the score is tied. The Jazz are playing with fire.

Looks like the Jazz won't end up losing to the worst team in the league after all. That's all I wanted for Christmas this year.

So glad we didn't lose to the Pistons. As frustrating as this season is, at least we aren't the Pistons....
Poor Bogey.

The most intrigating thing is the less offensive talent we play and the more deffensive talent we play we win more.
What is our record without markkanen? It should be better than with him.

If we're doing that, we should also look at how good were the teams we played with him and without him. The Jazz have a lot of problems but Markkanen isn't one of them. I'd sooner point to Kessler who has been disappointing so far this year, or our guards.

We are 5-5 without him.
We have won NOP twice, POR twice and Pistons. 3 at home, 2 Away. We have lost Memphis, Clippers, OKC, MIN & Dallas. 1 at home, 4 Away.
We are 6-13 with him.
We have won Memphis X2, Clippers, POR, Knicks and Nets. We have lost Sac x2, Suns X3, Orlando, Denver, Min, Chicago, Indy, Lakers, Portland and Cavs.
More or less, the quality of the team are similar.
